Can a two-spoke stering wheel be fitted to a 1968 1800S?

Hi all,
Is it possible to fit a earlier spec two -poke steering wheel to a 1968 1800S which currently has a three-spoke wheel?

Are the splines the same size?

Would I need any extra pieces to get get the indicators working correctly?

Thanks
Phil

Thanks charlski
The two spoke I have has only the main wheel and chrome cap piece with the Volvo logo.

Will I need any additional pieces to get it to work? The parts diagram shows the 3-spoke having 6 pieces making up the horn mechanism. How does the horn work with the 2-spoke?

Will the indicators still work fine?

Thanks
Phil

hi from what i remeber (as was a while back) you have a spring. a washer and a plastic cylinder shape piece with 2 notches cut out that you re use in exactly the same position. this is the on / off mech for the indicators so they work normally.

for ease i would just buy the horn wire for the early steering wheel (i got mine from brookhouse volvo) this is a wire with the metal end and spring plunger that is activated by the horn centre cap. Trickiest thing here is feeding wire down the steering column but as long as you get a long threader (i used a length of coathanger width wire) and thread through with that is pretty straight forwards.

You can use your original wire and solder a connector onto the horn button and use a fiece of foam to pad it out so it only earths when you press down, but for all the hassle its easier in my opinion just to buy the wire,

So half an hours job as long as it all goes smoothly. which it probably wont ;-)
