240 GL Estate For sale

19 Attachment(s)
It is time to sell my beloved 240 - new car is on the way.

It’s a 240 2.0l GL estate. My dad bought this as a four year old car in 1992, and then kept it for close to 30 years, before finally letting me have it in 2021. I have enjoyed it for the last two years or so, and it is with sadness that it's going now. I do still have my mk2 golf, so two classic cars are too much for me. This Volvo is my daily car and has been mostly trouble free in my ownership - the only fault was a faulty fuel pump relay.

First to be completely honest, it’s obviously not perfect – it is 35 after all!
• Currently number 12 fuse is blowing which I think is the reverse light switch - but I haven’t got to the bottom of it yet.
• Mileage is not 100% as dad drove it for a few years with a faulty odometer - but he didn't do a lot of miles in it in that time, so it's fairly close.
• As you can see there is a little rust on the arches at the rear, and a few bits on the sills. Some welding was done before I took ownership at the back on the sills, which is why the trim is missing from the sills. I have them both, with all the clips – I just wanted to sort out the other bits first before putting them on. There is some rust on the back where the tailgate closes.
• There is one small hole in the drivers seat, just about visible in the pictures.
• In tank fuel pump is possibly not working since the main pump does make a bit of noise when the fuel gets a bit low. The main pump has been replaced recently, along with the fuse wiring for fuse 6.

Most of the good points are obvious - it's a 240! But other than the obvious I've listed some other points:
• Excellent paintwork bar a few rust spots, and a little lacquer peel on the LHS wing.
• Very good condition underneath
• New clutch
• New fuel pump
• Serviced very recently – Oil, Oil Filter, Spark Plugs, Air Filter, Distributor Cap and Rotor Arm, and cleaned out throttle body and flame trap.
• Full service history/receipts. Too many things done to the car over the years to list really, if you want to know anything specific, then ask and I will look it up in the service history.
• Excellent interior condition, except the one small hole in the drivers seat.
• Full stainless exhaust – custom made to fit the car.
• Tow bar
• I have replaced the odometer gear, gear knob and the dash lighting with LEDs since I have had it.
• Family owned for 31 years.
• There is the full set of original steel wheels and trims – the alloys were fitted to the car in the first few years of ownership, so the steels and trims are basically as new (not the tyres obviously). However, the steels are not located with the car – they are in Salisbury. If not interested in having with the car, not a problem they can be sold separately. They are dry stored so no rush.
• I think dad has the original radio cassette, but I need to check. Again, located elsewhere though.

I’ve been honest, this is a daily use car that has been incredibly faithful and will be sorely missed. If I have missed anything important, it is not to deceive/hide anything bad, it is just an omission. Please ask for further information/pictures.

I am after £3000 for this. I have been looking at other cars to get a value, and they are all over the place, so this is tricky for me to value.

I am in Aberystwyth - it is possible I could get the car to Salisbury, if it would help.

Thanks

Good honest car by the looks of it.

Good luck with the sale.

Thank you, I would definitely describe it as an honest car - and I've tried to be honest with the advert. I really don't want to part exchange it, hopefully it will go to an enthusiast, or someone who will cherish it and use it. Would be nice if it stayed local so I could still see it, but think i might be dreaming!

What do think of the asking price?

I think the price is a little strong to be honest.

I think £2500 ono is more reasonable with a view to taking £2200 on an offer.

Way too cheap

Whack it on eBay or classic car auction website with a reserve. Someone will pay good money for a 240 with provenance

Thanks for the advice. I had hoped to avoid ebay, looks like I might have to advertise elsewhere too.

35 you say? Another 5 years and I believe it will escape the annual VED bill and be ULEZ compliant as well!

Thats right, and it'll easily get there!

I'll second geoffo's suggestion ... ebay
looks a good honest car, that the next owner can improve on.
£3000 about right, maybe more .... good luck

Agree with the 3k + price and I would suggest putting on Car and Classic rather than Ebay of Facebook.
