Washer T piece

I dismantled and cleaned the windscreen washer T-piece, and the washers are brilliant now, however there is still a small amount of water that comes out the small hole in the top of the T-piece, until the wee valve thingy shuts off the flow of water. I don't want the underbonnet sound deadening to get wet. Do I have to but a new valve, when I can see nothing wrong with it? There is no dirt in it, the the little plunger moves fine. It isn't the price, it's the time it takes to get to a dealer.

Hi Alistair,

If you can see water droplets its definately knackered mate. Buy yourself a new one and save anymore hassle.

Hi,

Same thing happened to me this weekend ! Water was simply shooting out of the top of the T piece and not even reaching the jets ! So living 17 miles from the nearest dealer I have affected a fix that works with no noticeable difference other than a very,very slight delay prior to the water emerging from the squirters,Fix as follows;

Remove the T piece prise off the red top cap ( very easy with a thin edged knife or similar),put silicone inside ,use a small drill bit to gently drill through the 2 connecting valves that the jet tubes attach to and simply place some insulating tape around it for additional security and replace.

This is not as complicated as it sounds and my jets are very powerful.

You can order one from a dealer and get it posted to you - just as I did.

Obviously you have to pay postage, but on that item it's pennies.

What puzzles me is that there are no broken parts. Why is the hole on the top there?

Brilliant. Didn't realise there should be the membrane. Must be the dissolved membrane that made alot of the gunge. Now, where's the wife's gloves..

RE: Washer T piece

A few week back, my washers started to fail. Removed the "T" piece, pocking around with a piece if wire, trying the clear what I thought was a blockage, I punctured the mendrain wondering why it was there. I though, must be a one way valve, to stop the washer water draining out of the pipes, this would prevent a long delay from the wipers moving and the water been sprayed.

So I though, I have a one way valve from my fish tank pump, tomorrow I will fit this before the "T" piece to see if this will fix my problem.

Thanks for reminding about this, time I tried this solution.

I will let you all know if it works.
