Camshaft end cap seal

Hi,

Its been noted on my Volvo health check that there is a leak from the Camshaft end cap seal. Volvo want £1000 to replace it, could anyone advise me further what it is exactly, how urgently I need to get it replaced?

Its a 2014 V60 D4 Geartronic.

Thanks

Is this the 4 cylinder engine or the 5? Fairly common for leaks on the 4 cylinder. Usually what happens is the camshaft seal leaks and causing contamination of the timing belt ect. So the costly repair is for removing the camshaft sprocket and replacing the seal along with carrying out the timing belt service.

As for urgency, oil does degrade the belt but i would just pop the cover off and have a look for yourself. If it’s swimming in oil then yeah you going to need to sort it but if it’s just mildly damp then perhaps it’s not as urgent but does want sorting out. A 2014 car will be coming up needing a timing belt service anyhow so a good idea to get the lot done at once.

Its the 4 Cylinder engine, apparently its the other side of the engine to the timing belt so I don't need to worry about oil getting on the belt. They have to replace a lot of one time use fuel pipes apparently.

Although looking on VIDA, I agree with what you are saying. I think I am getting some confusion about what the actual issue is from Volvo. I will speak to them again tomorrow about it.

"Oil leak from cam end cap seal" Is what it says on my report.

How did you get on with this? I have a leak on mine and it's been suggested that it's the camshaft end seal caps.

Was hoping it wouldn't be such an expensive fix
