Is this the end?

Hello All,

Driving down the motorway 70mph no problem then after 20 miles all of sudden dramatic power loss.

Now very slow to get the revs up and even when they do climb very little power, going up hill and pulling away almost impossible. No lights showing on dash, checked vac pipes as best I can, all seem okay. Disconnected MAF, no difference. Changed air and fuel filters 5k ago with genuine Volvo.

Any ideas chaps?

The ever popular N75 valve?

Vacu Jun 11th, 2016 13:29

Cheers Druid, is there a way of checking and repairing it?

Before you start buying lots of parts, it would be a real good idea to get the hidden fault codes read.

I'd second this, - get the codes read if there's no obvious fault. If your car is a 2003/2004 model you may be able to read them which a cheapo ELM327 reader costing a couple of quid, otherwise it will need a professional diagnostics setup or original/clone DiCE.

mechanic says no fault codes showing. mechanic thinks most likely a blocked cat?

cleaned n75 as per chesh's video but shows no improvement.

when i disconnect the n75 vac pipes there is some improvement in power ie: it doesn't stall from stationary up a camber.

not mentioned before, there's quite a bit of greyish smoke when revved this also improves when i disconnect the n75?

i've rechecked all vac pipes all seems good.

thanks for replies so far

Make 100% sure your mechanic is using the correct code reader, as many have a habit a sayiing there are no codes as a result of using the wrong code reader.

It's very unlikely that the CAT is at fault, as they don't seem to block. About the only reason for replacing one is when it fails the MOT due to corrosion of the outer can.
