Removing heater fan blower unit 1987 360
Hi All,
I am looking to remove the heater fan blower unit located in the engine bay of my 1987 360. Haynes manual describes 3 screws, 2 on the bulkhead and one 'inside the car'....I am struggling to find this interior screw and was hoping someone could point me in the correct direction. Seems an easy enough job, 3 screws and disconnect the vacuum hose and the fan plug....? Any assistance appreciated. Dave |
Open the bonnet, look down the opening of teh heater box and you will see a stud with a 10mm head not on it. Undo that and the two screws are the top and it will pull out. The wiring just un plugs

Thanks for the reply, will check that out tonight, sounds easy enough, cheers Dave

Blower unit removed with relative ease, found the 10mm nut...!
The heater control valve cable fouled things a bit but got there in the end. When removed there was a pile of what looks like an old sponge filter for the heater matrix, either it fell apart when I removed it or it has been like that for a while, very brittle. I assume replacements aren't available.... The foam gaskets between the blower unit and bulkhead are also a bit shot but I guess that should be easy enough to replace. I now have good access to the heater control valve (clearly leaking at the control arm) and also handily the crank sensor which I was going to be replacing soon anyway. Now to source a new control valve... Cheers Dave |

Blower removed.... https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...58ec2b0e_z.jpg Remains of filter at heater matrix. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...167e797d_z.jpg Remains of filter in blower unit and foam gasket which needs replaced. What sort of material could this be replaced with, or is it not worth the hassle ? I am going to hoover out the remains either way. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...1e9ed9f2_w.jpg Blower unit, I assume the rubber part on the bottom is some sort of drain ? This has a split in it.... https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...374b514960.jpg Heater control valve, now got good access to replace. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...51ca1d15a9.jpg Also good access to the crank sensor... |
They all go like that. You could put new foam in its place

the filter is a water trap, I used pond filter material to replace it.
