PV brake shoes
Hi, I will be overhauling the brakes on the PV. I want to be sure that I replace the shoes in the correct position. Should the chamfer be at the leading edges of shoe or at the tops? the manual is not very clear.
I seem to remember a comment that the short shoe should be at the front and the long shoe at the rear |

Hi, am I mistaken ,shouldn't the shorter pad be to the front and not at the rear as in this photo?

Arcturus;
Front or Leading Brake Shoe is indeed cropped! See: http://www.sw-em.com/brake_notes.htm...shoe_rear_shoe Cheers |

FYI - I hope you haven't scored the drum. Must have been making some noise.

Drum OK. No wonder the brakes were iffy. Also fitted wrong way round.. Not sure if it was me or my "mechanic" who fitted these.probably an easy mistake to make if not familiar with drums. One brake cylinder needs replacing. i expect that they may be generic. Derek, would you know the part Girling part number .I might be able to source one here rather than wait two weeks for parts from Sweden or else where

Brakes - PV544 Ch No 207866 onwards (approx 1959)
Girling front cylinder #64967409 (repair kit SP3153) Girling rear cylinder #32966125 (repair kit SP3347) Don't know if these are listed for any other makes but maybe the same part but with a different Girling number. SP repair kits are less specific and can be the same seals in a kit but with different end cover boots. |
