Low speed brake squeal

Spent a lot of today trundling round the Ile d'Oleron today. With small villages and smaller roads I spent a lot of time at less than 20mph. And it was all acompanied by a damned annoying brake squeal. Anything above 20mph was fine. As was the actual braking. I tried riding the brakes VERY briefly and it stopped during that. But then came back immediately. I tried braking heavily when someone pulled out right in front but that's had no effect. Any thoughts?

My previous 5 series and E class suffered the same issue and the dealers couldn't do anything about it.

your dealer will know how to fix this , improved pads and / or discs

Normally fixed by applying copper grease on back of brake pads.

no , the fix is improved pads and/or discs depending whether it is front or rear …... probably rear ..
volvo do not normally get noisy brakes but if they do they engineer it out rather than apply a short lasting quick fix ..

My V90 had the exact same issue and I had to harass the life out of the service manager to get it sorted. Turns out that it’s a known problem and it was clips or brackets on the brakes causing the noise. Haven’t heard it since they sorted it.

Yes. Early xc90s had to be done both from and back. It is a warranty fix.

Had the same on my S90. Sent it in and they got it sorted. No squeal since.

Ok thanks folks. Had a temporary cure by driving quite quickly in reverse and braking firmly. But its back again... I'll contact the dealer whe n back in the uk.
