2017 XC60 D4 R-Design Lux Nav tow weight
I have a light caravan(1200 MRO) but want a heavier single axle soon (1600 MIRO) and Im looking to buy 2017 XC60 2.0 D4 R-Design Lux Nav. I need to know the Volvo weights and towing ability, the dealer seems confused as do any websites I look at. So what are the true weights for this model and has anyone got one who can advise how well it tows. Im very concerned I get enough strength as I have nearly killed my Passat trusting the manufacturers numbers.

Hello aussiewantsaps2
I cannot assist with how an XC60 tows as I have an XC70. With regards the tare weight of the car you want to buy ask the dealer for photo of the weight plate on the car or ask him to look on the V5. That will tell you most of what you need. On here https://towcar.info a 2017 XC60 D4 weighs in at 1858kg so if your tin tent choice is 1600kg when full your on to a winner. |
Do you have a new shape (Mk 2) XC60 or Mk 1? 2017 was the year they changed.
Also is it auto, manual or AWD - that can change the answer... |
It will be 2.0ltr D4 Diesel Mk1 FWD, it seems the common answer is 1800kg tow weight. The Grande Bridisi 2019 caravan is 1350+150kg so 1500, on paper this seems good, however my Passat has same 1800 tow weight but hasnt impressed with towing my Bailey Ranger at 1200kg total, it is an estate with over 100k mls. Im hoping a 37K mls XC60 SUV body has what it takes to pull. Ive knackered my last 2 VWs towing vans.

This link should take you to the towing figures in the early 2017 XC60 Owners Manual

FYI the towing weight is based on what the car can set off with on a 10% gradient, hence AWD cars and those with auto boxes sometimes have a higher rating - but they're not that different on the open road. Unless you had the 177 (170) the XC60 has 50 BHP more than the VW. |
