Drop Links Advie

My MOT is due on my 1996 940 LPT at the end of the month and so gave the car the once over.

Needs new Drop links. The rod with bushes either end and may as well change the D shape bushes on the roll bar? The thick bar that goes left to right.

How difficult is this job? I replaced my drop links on my 240.

What make and supplier would you buy from? Want something that lasts and reasonable cost.

Many thanks. James.

I'm changing mine soon and thought Volvo genuine would be the best bet as I know they have lasted 23 years. You'll find about 57 trillion on Fleabay and how you determine what's good from that lot I don't know.

Really easy job, go for polybushes or genuine Volvo.

Thanks for your replies.

Genuine it is! I'll phone FRF Volvo tomorrow. Always had good service. When I lived in Ireland For the MOT my 240, it failed on a ball joint and the garage fitted a Unipart one. It failed in 6 months and paid again to fit a genuine Volvo one. Still good years later. Gets expensive when you have to pay twice.

It's pretty easy on a lift.
Remove the plastic undertray first if you've got one.
Had to turn the wheels to get to the bottom link bolt.

I used Superflex 22mm poly bushes and Meyle drop links, they're ok but probably going to buy Volvo links when I upgrade the roll bar.

Tightening torque on the bottom bolt is 85nm/63ftlbs, gap between the cups at the top should be 42mm IIRC.

Agree with Volvo parts from FRF.

If you are sure they need replacing go ahead but, if you happen to use the same MOT 'provider' that is trustworthy and unbiased I always go for the 'put it in' for the test and, if it fails for whatever get it fixed thereafter.

Bob :)
