XC70 Towbar advice.

Does anyone tow with a XC70, if so which towbar would you recommend. I was thinking of a fixed towbar rather than a removable one.
Also is there a steel beam behind the bumper and is this removed when the towbar is fitted.
Am I right in thinking that the Volvo towbar does not require the beam to be removed.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi.

I installed a witter stowbar detachable tow-bar on my XC70 but you can get fixed ones as well from witter.

with regards fitting this video of an install on a 2004 will be the same as your 2005, although he is fitting a USA style tow-bar the UK style would mount to the same points on the car.

XC70 Towbar advice.

Thanks Bob,
I saw the video you mentioned. I think I will go for the fixed towbar as I may put a bike rack on it.
Regards.

I have a 3 bike carrier that fits on my tow ball to I can still use it on the detachable tow bar, of course you can't tow a trailer at the same time but that's not a problem for me.

hi bob have the volvo fixed one works fine,a previous thread said that he had witter one fitted and they forgot to replace the steel bar behind it apparently this is important for the design of the car hope this helps

The thread you are talking about talks about a 2016 car the 2005 does not have a removable reinforcement bar so you don't have to worry about that.

I fitted a towbar to my 2005 XC70. Purchased on eBay it was a Volvo OEM (Brink) towbar and came with the grey electric module and wiring and a 7/13 pin adapter cable. The towbar was a bit rusty so I stripped it down and repainted it before fitting.

It's an easy job - most satisfying of all was the plug and play electrics, Popped the plug into the board under the trim on the left hand side of the boot and everything worked first time
