1998 V70R AWD Manual in Saffron

This is the most reluctant of reluctant ads, but I need something more insurable to get my girlfriend on the road. She doesn't like driving the Disco and I can't do without a big 4x4 for towing. :(

It will be available in a couple of weeks time, I have a few jobs on my to-do list!

1998 'R' V70R AWD Manual in Saffron! I only know of one other manual AWD with working AWD, and it's coral red and on eBay for £silly.

This car really is I believe, unique in the UK. As I've said it's Saffron metallic, but paired with an oak 'R' leather/alcantara interior with rare 'birch wood' trim and exceptionally rare birch and leather 'R' steering wheel! A sight for sore eyes to some, but striking Swedish design to me!

106,000 miles
MOT May 2017 (R768 WNT if you want to check its history online)
2 previous owners (V5 may list 3, if so, first was Volvo UK I believe)
I have owned it for a year, having bought it after it had been taken off the road a year prior, purely due to the number of penalty points on the owner's licence from both this and his Yamaha R1.

It drives like a new car, I've had comments on how tight and solid everything feels from everyone who's driven it, from a rally driver friend to my brother, who has a 2005 V70R AWD, who particularly commented how taut everything feels!

When I get around to a full set of photos etc., I plan on putting it on an eBay classified at c.£4k, as a low mileage manual AWD in the best colour, I don't think there's another one like it in the UK, and almost certainly not a better one! If it doesn't attract any attention I'll find a way to justify keeping it.

It's currently on a set of 17" Pegasus replicas. The original set of Comets (ideally in need of refurb) will be included for the right price. The only other modifications are a Kalmar Union front strut brace, and an aftermarket dump valve which I can remove if preferred. It wouldn't have been my choice to fit it, but it came with one and the original hose, and I decided that when I get bored of the dump valve, I'll replace it, but as yet I haven't.

I've made sure this is well sorted, and I've been working through the usual faults!

In the year and 7,000 miles I've owned it, I have done (personally, with just about everything coming from FRF Volvo)

Cambelt, tensioners and aux belt - genuine
Full PCV system replacement - genuine
4x Avon ZV5 tyres approx 2500 miles ago
NSF wishbone
Propshaft centre bearing replacement (picking it up this weekend to re-fit)
Pair of new headlamps (Not genuine)
Replacement rear wiper motor
Tailgate repair kit
2x services
4 wheel alignment after fitting new tyres and wishbone

It doesn't have a towbar, and never has had. As far as I can think of, heated rear seats are just about the only other option this doesn't have.

My to-do list, as it stands;

A recently developed squeak in the front suspension, I suspect strut top bush on OSF. Passed MOT without an advisory but needs done.
I want to renew the brake discs and pads, will go genuine. Callipers are fine.
Re-fit propshaft once collected from Driveline
Ideally if keeping, I'd get the bumpers and door mirrors painted this winter, as they have some light scuffing.
Repair load cover - plastic lugs have broken as is common. How to guide on the web for free and strong repair.
Sort air-con. May need compressor adjustment or just a re gas, haven't checked yet.

Everything works, and the car has no running issues at all, that I'm aware of. All dash lights function correctly, it pulls better than either the C70 T5 or the other V70R I had previously, and with the AWD it's exceptional in corners, especially when it's a bit wet!

As I say, that lot is a to-do list and I'm happy to deal with or without having some of those jobs done. I have a good stash of small parts from another saffron V70R which can go with this also.

Will come with spares as mentioned, also clamp-on Thule roof bars, 2x keys, 2x remotes, original books, on the condition I get first refusal to buy it back!

I haven't had a chance to compile some new 'For Sale' photos yet, so have some from my adventures with the car. The 3 bottom ones in bright sunshine were taken yesterday.

The stance looks funny here, that's just uneven ground!

Fresh from MOT - I take this to a Quattro specialist as I figure they're familiar with AWD and big 5 pots, so they're unlikely to go for a joyride! Really good garage in Ulverston.

I've had a few notes like this left for me, this was the first day I drove it to work!

Back in my favourite photo spot, the following were taken yesterday, when we did Hardknott pass in nearly 30 degree heat, without breaking sweat.

As always, the car is in SW Cumbria, but I'm happy to drive it anywhere in the UK, Ireland or time permitting even mainland Europe to deliver it.

I don't know if I missed it but there appears to be no mention of a price?

ETA - Never mind, found it!

I'm more open to offers and discussions through here than I will be through eBay!

I will say that I turned down a £3500 offer from a member on here shortly after buying the car. The car is in much better shape now, and so that's what I'm basing my price idea on.

Perhaps I should have bitten that forum member's hand off, but I had wanted a V70R in exactly this spec for years, and I know that I won't find another one. :(

Stephen what would insurance work out for your other half on an S70 T5 CD?
would that be cheaper as it's not an R?

I've been told it's a no due to her age (I'm 25, she's 23), T5 won't be any different I shouldn't think.

I'm thinking it's time to try something entirely different, currently looking at some big comfy French cars. I'll still have the Amazon though!

I could deliver it to your door in a couple of weeks, as I'm heading to Achill with the family for a week over the 12th...

I will, depending on how many people I'm travelling with! I fancy going down in my dad's new XC60 as I've not seen it yet. It'll be a Volvo of some sort, since getting my first T5 just about all the family have bought Volvos now! V50, V70R ph2, C30, XC60, XC90...
