Gear Change indicator
My partners V60 is a 2012 D2 Drive R Design (that was spec'd with every extra), one of the things I like about it is the gear change display indicator on the dash, where it displays which gear you are in, and an up or down arrow when you need to change up or down gear. Whilst it not really that useful I do quite like it.
My 2013 D4 R design is a bit more poverty spec and doesn't have this option, is the feature only on the drive models?, or can it be added to any model via software?. |
If you are talking automatic boxes then you get this when using manual mode.
flick the gear selector to the left and you will notice the change in the display, it will initially show "S" for Sport Mode, but you can flick up and down and the "S" will change to show the gear and when speed v revs is incorrect it will show an up r down arrow. |
They are both manual 😉

There might be something in the settings on how to enable it. My wife's Mini has that feature but you have to enable it via the multi-indicator stalk, a painfully detailed procedure that take me ages to do if she turns it off by mistake...

I have got a 2011 V60 Drive Lux manual,
It shows the gear and the arrow, all the time. It can't be disabled or turned off to my knowledge. It's the older dash with a dial rather than the newer TFT displays. Yours may be the newer ones, which will have a different set up, and may be more configurable. If you get other responses you may be able to determine what spec provides what. If it doesn't appear to be standard, I'd hazard a guess it is part of the the Drive Spec, as I think it's suppose to tell you when to change economically. |
I've got it on my XC60 but I'm pretty sure it changes with the themes.

Mines a pre facelift so has the older style cluster (same as my partners), yeah I'm guessing it maybe an extra for the drive models, I may speak to my local dealer see if it can be added via a software update

Seem to recall it was indeed part of the DrivE spec on that car - the purpose was to ensure the best gear for economy.
The problem I always found with it was that it couldn't anticipate - no reason why it should, of course, but it would start telling me to change up and I'd find myself talking back to it saying "you haven't seen that hill we're approaching..."! David |
Yes, it’s another invaluable piece of kit, being told when to change gear. It’s on the D5 manual I’ve got. Never seems to indicate ‘change down’. Thank God I don’t need to use it. Mind you, each to their own, some need the car to tell them to do anything and everything.
