1995 440 brake pipes

hi, guys. im after a bit of advice. my old girl ( 1995 1.6li ) not the wife ! will be in for her m.o.t next week. & it looks like the dreaded front to rear( main feed ) brake pipes need doing.worse part seems to be the middle section, forward of the petrol tank. they then seem to go over the top of the petrol tank ! which is the easy way to replace them, can i go around the tank? ( just replaced all the pipes on a vw sharan ) but that was straight forward ! thanks guys. steve w.

If its anything like the S40's and v40's you have to drop the tank. I havent got my 460 to hand to have a look and be sure...

Best thing to do it just replace the mid sections that need it (i would run some wire wool over them to see if they need doing, if not just run some oil over them to keep them coated from water etc), the pipe over the tank should be ok that part is kept quite well away from rubbish. if they do need doing i would suggest dropping the tank down, it is quite easy to do.

Steve,

I did this about 7 years ago on a 480 turbo. The tank was dropped down a little but undoing the tank straps. It did not come out and nor did the exhaust but the pan rod looks like it did... I had 5 480's over the years but it's been so long I forget the details.

Here are some pictures I hope will help. Sorry for the delay I had to find them first.

Thanks

:)

If making up new pipes, can they be re-routed around the sides of the tank. Chop off the old ones and leave them there, would save a lot of faff.

Of course, dropping the tank is ideal opportunity for rust prevention in an awkward area
