Diff

If you still need a diff, yesterday we found a '68 Volvo 144 fitted with a 3-speed column-change auto box. The car is structurally (and prob mechanically) derelict, so before you mail me for panels, forget it! The car is complete and is for sale as spares (its not mine): if interested (I can't check axle for markings) be prepared to trailer from East Sussex.

Hi Paul Is there any way you can check the cwp ratio for me. Thanks.

Sorry Geoff: car has sunk up to its floor into the rotted foliage of years in a bracken/fern filled quarry. No possibility of rolling car over to look underneath; thats why I described the cars spec, in case you could determine from that the diff it had when new.

There is the remotest chance I can find the diff that was in a box of bits I acquired years ago. A guy looked at it last year as he wanted an Amazon one, but it wasn't what he wanted. Can one count a diffs teeth and perhaps take measurements to produce a ratio? I know nothing about this sort of thing, sorry.

Paul its very easy to determine the ratio , if you can see the cwp.
Count the teeth on the crown wheel/ring then count the teeth on the pinion then divide one into the other, to give you 4.1 or 4.6 or ???
Easiest way to count the teeth is put spot of tipex on 1st tooth. Hope this helps
