lpg not activating

hi trying to go over my lpg s60 factory fit system to work out whats wrong with it, car runs fine on petrol, button petrol light always on, if i press petrol button should i hear a click tank end ? mine does not, stepper motor top is missing so exposing electrics so ive fitted a known good one but still no joy, ive been told tank as a selonoid, could this be deactivated due to old stepper or should it still click and when ? cheers.

Front solenoid is the one that will usually fail due to the heat cycling it gets exposed to.

When you press the 'petrol' button, what happens to the light? It should flash if it is waiting to change and will stay on solid if there is a fault.

I had a faulty stepper on mine and it wouldn't try and change over if that's any help. Also, is the replacement stepper for a Volvo? The Vauxhall ones are almost identical but don't work!

Some LPG tanks have a manual shut off valve, it's worth checking if the S60 does and that it is turned on - I no longer have mine so can't do a comparison.

thanks for reply, light blinks once when i press it then solid, stepper is for volvo taken from known working s60, when i disconnected main pipe just before valve nr vaporiser there was no hiss or sign of gas so dont know about tank end, is there a valve there, cheers

It will have a solenoid valve at the tank, it may have a manual valve as well.

I assume you have gas in the tank! ;)

tank reads half full, but its said that since ive had it, will it just be solid light on petrol button if its empty, how do i test selonoids ( one on tank other by vaporiser) cheers for advice

I think mine started flashing when it ran out of gas.

To test solenoids, disconnect it from the loom and apply 12v across the coil, it should click as it switches, and click again as the 12v is removed.

If they switch, you then need to check so see if the 12v is present when the car is running and upto temperature when someone presses the petrol switch.

Just noticed on my D5 that there is a fuse and relay position for the bi-fuel functions in the under bonnet fuse box. It may be something to look at if you are still struggling with it.
