"lock" on seat sliders trim

Hi, me again.

I want to swap the nice leather seats from my 940 GLE to my "new" 940 SE, which has naff seats and a broken lumbar support.

The drivers seat has a small round lock, like on a computer, fitted to the plastic cover over the seat securing screw. the new one does not.

What does the lock do? I always thought it was to stop tampering with the seat, or rather the crash sensor, causing the airbag to go off.

The car has an enhanced alarm, with ultrasonic sensors and an isolation switch in the boot. Could this be part of that?

Many thanks.

Could you post a pic of the plate? Also what year is the car?

Yes, I would have done yesterday but my daughters phone was flat, (the best camera I had access to.)

They are both 1996, or rather "N" plate.

The red SE is March '96
The green GLS is April 96.

Looks to me as if it is to switch off the alarm maybe for when the vehicle is sent in for servicing, or if the keyfob battery fails. could even be for the immobiliser or some other electrical item.

Hi,

What he says ^^^

It is certainly not a standard fitment. That piece of plastic should, in theory, lever/clip off and thus giving access to the seat bolt.

Des. . . ;)

Thanks guys. I will lever-off with impunity.

The car also has a high security switch lying in the boot side bins, ultrasonic detectors, a glass breakage detector, (same as the SE) and a sounder under the bonnet. Clearly someone did not want it stolen.

The new SE has Volvo guard stickers, but no key fob remote and no ultrasonics so I may ask a few more questions.

I think they would be better in a new thread? "Rejuvenating a Volvo-guard alarm"
