Flex exhaust pipe replacement

1 Attachment(s)
Hi all
need help and advice - flex pipe on my exhaust seem to be gone just 3 months after replacement. In Sept it was replaced with Bosal (265-341) generic unit but it seem to not withstand the T5 exhaust.
The OEM part is only available as one part with cat so thats obviously not gonna happen. Anyone can recommend either a proper replacement specifically for T5 or direct me towards company who specialises in good aftermarket ones? I enquired locally and everywhere I hear is "no, we dont do them for T5"...

pic of replacement from Sept one just for reference

I'm thinking all owners of 2005-ish T5's are going to suffer the exhaust system falling apart soon, my rear silencer is poorly.

Like you say; when you turn up to an exhaust place with a T5 there's lots of head scratching. These cars left the factory with a stainless steel system, testament to which shows a life expectancy of 15 years!

All I can think of is a sports down pipe and sports cat? something like the Ferrita system. Expensive though, about £800.00. Supposed to give you an extra 10-15 bhp too.

Other than that a bit of trial and error welding in replacement flexi's - PITA though.

Like I said in your last exhaust thread, Volvo, JT tuning or Ferrita are about your only options :)

You'll have to confirm but the ST 225 I'm pretty sure has an identical system at the front anyway, with only the rear backbox being slightly different mounting wise.

Almost every owner of an ST replaces the exhaust for more T5 noise (who can blame them) so you may be able to find a downpipe on ebay from an ST fairly easily.

that's the other way round, you mean? T5->ST
but I should have specified - my plan is to find a FLEX part only, really dont want to invest in full exhaust, not DP etc. I know US guys are recommending applications like this one but with import chargtes etc it becomes a bit expensive aswell, hence I thought maybe there is similar UK -based company that specialises in aftermarket flex parts for turbo applications...

Oh, btw, Welton & FM - I forgot about one more tiny detail - my car being AWD makes it additionally complicated as DP part for it is DIFFERENT than standard T5. So I can probably forget the whole ST225 direction :/
still doing research on this, last time I focused mainly on rear muffler and that part is shared with other T5's....

It seems your options are limited on AWD. You're likely going to have to spend hundreds for a new one or another cheap version of what you have to be in the same position again in a few months..

Unless you're getting rid of the car soon I'd just bite the bullet and enjoy a new system. They're worth having, especially on a mapped car like yours, it'll help with intake temps no end and hold onto boost a bit longer.

Just a thought, the Focus RS, same engine.....AWD.....

Having said that, it's got a different turbo setup so may have a different flange on the exhaust manifold to the DP.

Might be worth a look though, you never know.

Ford Kuga has this engine with AWD combination as well.

Not sure whether any flexi section from any of the P2 Volvos would fit... worth a look as loads of those have AWD.

FunkyMelon Feb 14th, 2019 09:28

Ford Kuga is a good shout, I'd imagine actually that the Focus RS system would have a much bigger bore as it's pushing significantly more power than a standard T5/ST so likely wouldn't fit without an adaptor anyway.

LizardOfBodom Feb 14th, 2019 10:22

Kuga with 5pot engine? well thats a new one.... are you sure?

From my research, RS has differently sized DP and this one is a complete mismatch. ST225 is closest as for plug&play but then on my AWD its just differently shaped.
I agree with you that new full exhaust system would be best option but thats sadly not far off 1K (and STILL with problems to find manufacturer that can match it to AWD version) and I really dont have that money so spend on car.
I keep on searching for something like this Vibrant flex but available in EU but for some reason I cant. Hows that possible that no EU company have/do flex parts rated for high-performance turbo engines?

edit - T5R90210 good point actually, will research more bout those. But in general, I dont really care what car it is for - as long as its 8' by 2.5' dia and has those interlock liners and rated for turbo - that should do! my mechs will do the "patching" part anyway.
atleast thats how I hope it can work..
