V70 intermittent fault loses power

Hi I am been reading as much as possible on this subject but cannot find a specific post. Car is year 2000 mileage 163k and well maintained. Random fault often at roundabouts. Press the throttle and car will not rev past idle. I tend to put into neutral try to rev then 10/30 secs later will rev then drive as normal. Sometimes repeats same day or up to a month later. No lights and checked on vida by Voltech Glasgow no codes at all. ETM had a contact less rebuild 12 months ago and ETM checks out ok on Vida. Only other issue is cruise control only works very very occasionally. Any assistance is much appreciated.

Hi Jaxonedy,

Not sure that it makes any difference, but what model V70 is yours? T5, 10v, manual, auto, AWD etc?

In VIDA there is procedure to test your ETM. (Not just checking for codes). Have you run that?

Thanks Steve. Car is an auto 2,4 petrol. The vida check shows etm ok. And the garage reckoned a vacuum fault but fixed after a smoke? test. So still in the dark.

Hi

Which contact less rebuild did you use? Did you do it yourself? I haven't done one myself yet, but have thought about it.
I think the options are Sacer or Xemodex.

Robert DIY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihG8BsUJro8 shows how to do the Sacer.

I am pretty sure the VIDA ETM test relies on comparing the two independent position sensors that are included in the OEM setup.

I am not sure that all of the contact less rebuilds have two sensors, and so VIDA cannot "compare". Maybe Xemodex has two sensors - they mention "dual throttle position sensor"

Good shout. But is running otherwise ok. Do you reckon any other faults?

Sorry was a sacer rebuild

Does it get any better on roundabouts if the fuel tank is filled-up? It sounds a little like you have a fuel starvation; that often manifests itself as a "no rev above idle" on these Auto's, and rarely if ever leaves a code.

If the fuel filter has not been changed in a blue moon, it might be worth tackling that at the same time, but this sort of thing tends to be a faulty pickup tube or loose wiring to the fuel pump if it's random.
