ECU Mapping

Well I think Im going to give it a go before i do the turbo back. fuel pump and injectors etc.

I see Rica Map is up to 235hp and mte is similar i think. Is this the max that can be had with just a airfilter basically?

I might try a place local to me called powertune scotland as i know a fair few people who have had there car done there.

Do you think this would be a good idea or not???

As although i want to up the power id like to see a little more than 235 without having to do an exhaust sytem etc just now to see how i like it.

All thats been done to the car is a Pipercross airfilter and DV.

235 seems to be the max for standard off the shelf stuff.
Custom RICA and MTE can be done but I woud recommend the MTE imho.
I have the RICA and it is very good, but a lot of low end torque and not too much left up top (still cracks 150 though) :)
What year is your T4?
If you decided to go the RICA route I would be willing to trade my ECU for yours (assuming it would all work)
But over all answer would be get the injectors and everything else done first then a custom RICA or MTE map should see you knocking on 250ish
It's the 14T which seems to be the real limiter

As Enigma666 has said, the 14T is a fairly small turbo and to reliably get over 235bhp, you will have to get the exhaust done too. T4s are VERY sensitive to back pressure and leaving the exhaust as standard will cause charge air temps to rise very quickly and power will start to tail off. This is part of the reason why its always recommended that you fit at least a CAT-back exhaust when doing a remap.

Always listen to MR Pyaap he knows his stuff :)
Ashok, would another ECU go into my car without any problems like on older 850's etc?
Or will I have to have my RICA de-soldered to have Marco work his magic?

Nope, unfortunately, the EMS2000 units are coded to each car (using a unique 16 digit PIN!!) so you will not be able to swap them between cars (the immobiliser transponder will not work). You'll need to find out whether RICA use protection / encryption boards with their soldered EPROMs. If they don't then it may be possible the bench flash the ECU and overwrite the existing RICA software but it will mean it will be gone for good (unless you get the EPROM lifted and "emulated" beforehand). If you're unsure, I would warn MTE about the issue so that they can be prepared to "lift" the EPROM if they need to.

Cheers Mr Wizard....Marco and Don are already aware that it may need de-soldering so Don's workbench is all ready and waiting for my ECU.
Marco isn't coming over until the new year now so have some time and unfortunately I think it's a protection board that's been soldered in place.

Cheers
Chris

In that case, it will definitely need some further soldering to have the protection board removed. I would suggest reminding Marco so that he bring the correct equipment. You will also need to provide some details on your car so do get in touch with Don to make sure Marco has everything he needs to access the ECU.

The EMS 2000 does indeed have immobiliser details stored so that it will only work with that car BUT the Volvo dealer can Blank the verlog code to enable it to be fitted to another car where it will learn that car's immobiliser code ... This is for standard ECU's not sure about re written ones .

Yes, that is possible but I've not found a single dealer here who is willing to do that (most cite "security issues", whatever that means)! You can get the code blanked out in Sweden but that would entail buying another ECU. I got that done as I wanted a spare ECU to be written specially for track usage and yes, the ECU "locks" itself to the car when first plugged in as it learns the immobiliser code. The procedure can be applied to both stock and remapped ECUs because the immobiliser parameters (and anything related to security) are left untouched.

Where would i find software to alter the parameters and settings of the EMS 2000 ECU ? I have an early T4 EMS 2000 ECU and would like to to use it on a completely different application .
