Shock absorber replacement recommendations 2009 D5 AWD

Had the annual safety check on the XC60 today (NZ Warrant of Fitness) and the XC60 passed OK. However the inspector commented that one of my rear shocks was just starting to show signs of a leak, and he recommended that I replace them both.

I guess at 11 years and almost 200,000km value for money has been obtained from the current shocks.

I don't drive the XC60 aggressively so don't need ultra sporty shocks.

Any recommendations for replacements ? I'll do both the rear shocks and the front struts.

As majority of car manufacturers only guarantee such components unto 60K miles (100K kms) you've certainly obtained your value for money out of these  two fold.
Since you're happy with the original setup (even @ 200K kms) I'd recommend SACHS shocks as they are OEM for the XC60 (that's what is on my 2009 XC60 D5 AWD). Alternatively Bilstein B4 are of comparable OEM quality, often advertised as 20% better than OEM and from my personal experience on non Volvo cars, they are a sound investment.

See posts #18 and #19 here: https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum...vo-XC60-Review for info and an opinion on Koni rear dampers for the XC60.

+1 for SACHS and the Billy’s.... used them both many times in that past, always good results. My only comment is in my experience the Billy’s are slightly firmer. That’s not a criticism - some might prefer a slightly sportier feel, if you are more comfort orientated then I would go for Sachs but as said it’sa very slight difference and my subjective, humble opinion....

This is a project I've been thinking of doing however at 650+for the parts and about 100?? a corner it's a big outlay, mine have about a 110K mostly motorway but I do rely heavily on the car but can't afford a new one perhaps there are other areas of maintenance to look at before going for this.........in my case?

You could alway do this project one axle at a time... which ever one you feel needs doing first.

You're probably right but I have a habit (expensive) throughout the years of doing all 4.........Tyres, shocks, to a degree brakes (which I do myself, so a little cheaper). It just gives me peace of mind.

Thank you, definitely something to consider

I replaced mine with Bilstein and am happy with the new ride, old ones had almost 160k !
As Auto Addict mentioned the originals are SACHS. They are straight forward to replace BUT disconnecting front at the base of the strut is a bit stressful
If you are interested in the Bilstein, I ended up with an extra unit which I could not return Bilstein 22-232625 (front right). For sale at much cheaper then anything you will find online.....if your interested.

I might be interested in this front right Bilstein B4, depending on your asking price.
