bought mi self a t4 in panama yellow today , needs a lot of work , but I thought id grab it as I had a laguna mk1 which is mint condition , but really didn't have any appeal from anyone , although nice , wasn't a car that had the wow factor...if it cant be restored , ill sell on as parts or a complete car

What needs doing? Have you made a list yet? You keeping it stock or tuning it?

craig12 May 23rd, 2020 06:52

oh lots im afraid , both cills gone , rear wheel arch, passenger wing is only in primer , interior is scruffy, no paperwork , needs an 02 sensor apparently , ive bit off more than I could chew , as I say it may not be saveable, no big deal if not , ill get it to an mot station for the failsheet , I suppose the first thing is to get it running properly , it fired up after a few goes yesterday , but then staled , then wouldn't start for 2 turns then did , im keeping it stock and would ieally like to showit , (itll never win anything) but if I can get it to a presentable state , then its a talking point at a show (although there is a prize for best shed at some shows) oh and it has a dent in the driver door , plan is to keep it stock , if ive got the funds , ive got the money its a case of if any body shops can save it , as long as I can get the parts , its the labour that runs away with the money and paint ………..oh and the yellows very flat , if it needs a respray im up the creek without a paddle:speechless-smiley-5:speechless-smiley-5

The model number is on the engine bay there is two they should be the same, i believe, then google search it, i think. For past mots you can get a app or the .gov website will tell you

Well done for taking the chance on the T4, I've got one myself and having owned the 1.8 and 1.6 models I can guarantee yours is the more fun version.

Sorry to hear it's come with such a list of issues. As regards the bodywork perhaps it's had a bit of a 'life', being the sporty version that it is.

The rough running and no tickover does come up on here so check some previous posts.

It's possibly the MAF or another sensor or two.

If you've not got one I'd recommend you get a code reader off ebay and bluetooth that to your phone - you'll be able to read the key info regarding fuel, etc without any Volvo-only readers being required.

On my last S40 it kept throwing an error code that related to idle running etc

When you next post let us know the reg year since there's a S1 and S2 model.

Also, if you grab hold of the engine no & the VIN you'll be able to check that the engine's as described and what if any upgrades were with the car when new.

As said above, there's a demand for T4 spares so don't let it go 'as is' to a scrapyard as you'll not get more than around £150 I'd say at the moment.

A few parts would get you over that figure, eg wheels, engine, gbox, lights & some trim.

Lastly, get some pics on here - we're not into 'pristine garage cars' on here & are 100% ok with the 'in need of work' variety - it is a T4, after all & deserves saving.

Just noticed you'd asked 'what model of T4' - there were some variations, relates to model year somewhat but I'm sure we can fill in the blanks for you.

If it helps, regarding OBD readers I purchased two off ebay. The cabled one wouldn't do diddly on any of the S/T40s but the bluetooth one would read and clear codes for me.
