Engine service warning message
 

Its appeared a few times now over a couple of months, i reset the codes do the start procedure and no new codes appear immediately so guess its something which appears after time or is intermittent.

The fault codes are all high or low signal

High signal no2 injector
Low signal Maf
Low signal,swirl thingy.

I guess either the ecu has an issue or was wondering if there could be a dodgy connector somewhere, is there a common fault to cause this?

I doubt its the ECU. I would trace the wiring and check power/ground/signal voltages.

VIDA will also give you suggestions as to posssible causes if you use it to read the codes. The generic code readers can be misleading.

Vida only points to the faulty ECU but as you say its quite odd as so many signals are an issue.
I will check earth connections ect at the ecu once i find it, to be fair not looked yet

Never consider VIDA to be 100% correct

Using VIDA requires a working and functional Brain in a Human Being to get the right results.

You have had 2 prompt responses from long-term, experienced forum members. The advice you have been given is the best you will get, given that we have not got all the info required.

I don't know what else you can expect.

Its not your message which i read as being rude.
I was fishing to see if there was a known electrical fault which would cause the error, my other motors are Range Rover Classics which experience shows have certain faults across the car range.

The message may not of been written to be rude but reads that way to me, one should always be careful.

Whilst it was a bit direct - Swiss's advice was factual and relevant.

VIDA is by the far best diagnostic system that you can use on your Volvo but it will only tell you symptoms, not causes. Like a doctor know your temperature is high and blood pressure low.... a brain is needed (with experience and intelligence) to diagnose.

By coming on to this forum you get access to more Volvo experience that anywhere else. But as you say you have the option of going elsewhere...

Anyway to your post - I agree with what has been said so far - ECU's very rarely give trouble and generally either work or fail hard.

Bad earth's are not likely to be the issue either - Volvo's wiring standards are much higher now and every resistance based sensor has it's own dedicated earth and reference resistor built in so it is effectively one half of a wheatstone bridge. Many of the sensors now are digital also (but probably not on the Mk 1 90)

This in my first modern volvo i have worked on so its going to be interesting. VIDA is a great tool and would of helped me in my past life mending the F88 we had on the fleet...
Interesting to hear of the wire standards, this could be simply a lose plug or dodgy connector i guess, we do get a poor radio signal when its damp in the rear of the car which i also guess is a corrosion on a connector or component.

I will report back what i find, the message is back on the dashboard after only 2 days this time.

Its a 2010 D5 BTW
