EGR - How to Test and Wiring Diagram - V70 2006 2.4 D5
5 Attachment(s)
Hi, can anyone help ....
I have taken off the EGR assembly from my 2006 V70 2.4 D5. Spent sometime de-greasing/carboning. And is now fairly clean. How can I test the main plunger actuator? I can see four inputs on the socket but have no idea which pins do what. Also took the top off it and it looks simple just two connections a motor and the plunger/valve. So I assume the must be a 12v live and return? But what would the two other pins on the socket be for? Or is there a set of electronics on the black plastic top part that has four screws and the connector socket? Can I test it by connecting 12v to the two inner terminals? Is there a wiring diagram for ? Many thanks, Rich https://www.dropbox.com/s/rgo8oy0iun...-%201.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/z3czlak10j...-%202.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/rsk2vqo2be...-%203.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/fr9jsdbzft...20top.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/2i8wws3ovb...20V70.jpg?dl=0 |
It's PWM signal for variable position so you either need a PWM generator or it's best tested in situ with VIDA
|
I presume when its out of the car the default postion is to block EGR flow yea?
If so dont worry about it being dead as this would be the same as an EGR delete. I would only be worried about fixing it if its default position is open. |
If the EGR valve is stuck in any position then the real air mass vs what the ECM counts will be different except only when the valve is in the position needed.
EGR delete needs a remap. |
What is an 'EGR delete'? What does remap really mean?
The plunger is closed, I can just about push it open with my thumb. Have cleaned it's almost good as new. But I have no idea on whether the motor/servo on the EGR body and circuit board are in good working order?? Am currently looking at a BlueDriver diagnostic tool or Jdiag JD906 as I really need a code reader / reset tool to get an insight into whats going on. I have put a new DPF on the car and that helped get it back to about 80%, the local garage said there are EGR faults and also to check the glow plugs. Thank you for the help so far, much appreciated. If you need a diagnostic only for your Volvo then get Volvo DICE (device) and VIDA (software).
VIDA answers all the technical questions and with DICE connection you can test all the electric stuff (modules, servos, sensors etc). |
EGR delete means blocking the EGR air passage permanently.
The engine mapping (not to be confused with MAP as "manifold absolute pressure"): http://what-when-how.com/automobile/...ng-automobile/ No air from EGR means wrong fuel-to-air ratio for the original engine mapping and results in improper fuel burn. |
Has anyone got a DICAE VIDA unit they'd like to sell?
Looks like £60 on ebay unless there is a better price anywhere else. Thanks re EGR delete info ..... much appreciated. Richard |
My V70 runs far better with the EGR blocked off and better fuel economy .
|
Have ordered a DICE VIDA, so will see how I get on with that.
Hopefully, I will be able to see what is going on a bit better. |
