2007 Exec Fridge not working

Checked the temp inside the fridge tonight, started at 32C and after 1/2 hour of driving home it was only down to 30C which is probably the effect of the aircon in the cabin and not the fridge actually cooling itself.

The switch was in position 2 inside the fridge.

Does anyone know where the fuse is or if I can check the operation by other means?

Thanks.

You shoud be able to hear the fan running. I know our's doesnt work because we can't. Never have worked out where the fuse is.

Resurrecting an old thread of mine....

I have checked the temp inside the fridge and it doesn't change when the switch is in position 1 or 2 (the fridge switch not the ignition).

Can anyone tell me if it has it's own fuse or is it shared?

TIA

I found wiring diagrams here:

http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/volvo-wiring-diagrams/

I had a good look around the 2007 XC90 diagrams but I see no reference to the fridge.

I have a 2004 Exec that has been in my family from new and had the same problem. The fix is as follows:-

Look at the fuse diagrams in the Owners handbook, open the tailgate, remove the access panel on the right, there is a small fuse panel at the bottom almost under the floor, you can only feel it not see it.

Check that the fuses are in the correct slots (there is one that is empty from new). On mine the fuse was in the wrong slot from new and on putting it in the correct slot the fridge worked and has done so ever since.

Hope this helps

I have had a few months hiatus from the site.

Yesterday my son was sitting in the booster seat in the middle row and he pushed his foot against the grill at the back of the centre console. There was a strange noise which I further investigated, it appears there is a fan directly behind the grill which is operating and the speed is controlled by the 2 position switch inside the fridge.

So the next question is "Is it possible that the refrigeration unit accessed from inside the fridge defective?" and idea where I could source a second hand unit? I don't know any specialist Volvo breakers.

OK, my fridge now seems to be working after I managed to find a bit of time to take a decent look at it.

There are 2 fans for the complete system.

1 is located at the rear of the centre console, check this is working by gently pressing one of the grill strips halfway up the rear of the centre console.

The second fan is accessed from inside the fridge. You just need to remove the 2 allen bolts and undo the wiring connector.

On mine, this fan had a hairline crack in 1 of the fins which was completely jamming it. I broke off the offending fin and now it seems to be working well.

Worth a quick look if you have a spare 5 minutes.

The fridge is a very very simple circuit with nothing but power going to it, and then peltier elements and fans to reduce the temperature

So check
1. You have power at the fridge connector
2. The peltier elements are sucking power (check for current draw, you should see a difference in position 1 and 2)
3. The fans are spinning - check for power to the fans

And that's really all there is to it.
