Hesitation around 2000 rpm - V70 1.6 drivE

I have a couple of issues with my 60 plate V70 1.6 drivE diesel with 156k on the clock.

Firstly, I get a 'hesitation' in the revs between 1500-2000rpm whilst on a light throttle. Secondly, again at relatively low revs, I get a whistle-like sound when I lift off the throttle. it sounds a little like the noise those wastegate kits make on crappy Corsas and Golfs that have been done up.

There's no lack of power when I put my foot down and no excess smoke to indicate any turbo issue. I've also inspected a number of the hoses for holes or splits but not found anything amiss.

It has been suggested to me that I remove and clean the EGR valve. I would do this, but I understand I need a special tool to unclip the hoses attached to the unit? Anyone know what I should be looking for on Ebay?

Any help or suggestions gratefully received.

Cheers
