Engine Won't Fire - '54 Plate D5

Car hasn't been used for a while and the battery ran down to the extent that I wasn't able to jump start it.

Battery off, charged up and now back on the car.

Turns over nicely but just won't fire :-(

Not sure where to even start with this. Obviously I can' diagnose with VIDA/DICE as it won't start.

Any advice much appreciated

the car dose not need to be running to scan with vida . have you checked that there is plenty fuel in the tank ? use key pos 2 to read the car.

Tks Simmy. I didn't know that :-)

Fuel is low and car is on a slope facing uphill, plus tilting towards the passenger side slightly. Usually ok from the level that the gauge is showing. I did put in 5 litres earlier via a can though after first failure, will do the same again tomorrow just in case.

the saddle tanks on v70s have been known to cause confusion with fuel levels when parked on uneven ground how long has the car been laid up is the fuel pump running? it seems like you have the same car /colour as me it might be worth getting the car on to level ground and retrying

Tks again Simmy.

Car not been used properly since last November. MOT ran out and I need to replace one of the rear ABS sensor cables (A mission in itself!). That said, I have run it around a couple of times to keep it 'alive'. Last time was probably in December.

I get what you say re the fuel and level ground. It has started with a lower level showing on the gauge before. Unfortunately It will be extremely difficult to move it level ground while not running, although not impossible.

Can I ask you a question about VIDA key pos 2 and car not running? Not used that for a while either, but as I recall to clear codes don't I have to run engine, rev it etc? Or is there another way to take a fresh read?

Put another 10 litres of fuel in it.

codes can be erased without the stop start procedure as suggested in vida . what that dose is allow the modules to re set from a set point ie powered down which happens when you restart the car anyway . there are some good vids on youtube by Mathew leavsley and farpoint farms there are others but i cant remember them. its possible that by running the car whilst parked at an unusual level you may have let air into the fuel system. fortunately the d5 v70 will self prime if there is enough fuel present to cover the pick up point.

Absolutely do this.

You may need to crank for a while but it should fire up.

Still not firing.

Plenty of diesel in there now.

VIDA failed at the first hurdle. Have done some googling. Will need to go back and check the unit from what I am reading.

Has worked many times before and did the date update bit a few years ago

Lob some easy start into the air intake - will rattle like a pig when it fires though, but will pull fuel through if there’s an issue with in tank pump.
