Erractic Remote Central Locking Operation.

A couple of days ago at the start of the cold snap here in the UK I decided to play safe and leave the motorcycle at home and take the S60 on the work commute.

I was unable to open the car via the primary keyfob remote, I then tried the emergency spare and same symptons no keyfob operation on locks either doors or boot.

Locks were not frozen and when I manually open car with key on drivers door it turned easily and all other doors unlocked with it, the alarm also triggered when I put my arm in to insert key into ignition. Car also started ok and car battery turned engine over ok.

Voltage checked on the CR2032 batteries in both remotes and they were looking good at 3.1V each.

Later in the day keyfobs worked and then 5 minutes later stopped again.

Since then ie this morning with -4 C temps no problems at all so it would appear to take temp related issue out of the equation.

So question is where is the issue likely to reside, is there a history of other S60`s / V70`s exhibiting the same problem.

Is the car parked in the same place when the locks play up or does it happen anywhere?

If in same place each time it could be caused by localised interference to the remote gob frequency.

It's not because you slid your hand inside the car that the alarm went off, it's because it has a 10 second delay after the car is opened with a 'non matching' key. Did you use the valet key? Looks like the car didn't recognize the transponder inside the key for some reason. I have opened my doors manually and the alarm didn't went off.

It points to a battery drain even if the car started fine. Or as mentioned here above.

Was your alarm siren already replaced? Could it be it has started leaking inside?

Local QRM or interference as the radio hams amongst us would call it did spring to mind at the time, however as the system started behaving I have not investigated that avenue of attack as yet.

I do however have various radio`s and a freq counter to hand should the problem rear it`s head again.

In answer to one of the replies I do not have a service key, both keys are the std type and are both recognised by the car ok when the system behaves.

As far as the alarm unit is concerned it is still the original and has not been changed. I am aware of the leaking internal battery issues but for obvious reasons I am not going to go down the route of removing it, repairing or replacing on the basis of one random issue.

I have not had any issues with random activations of the alarm either as yet. If problems do continue to occur I will remove fuse and see if it has any impact.

Main reason for the post was to get a heads up on any known issues if any to my particular symptons and help target the investigation in the right area.

Thanks to the forum members that have responded so far.

If you may have QRM at your QTH, you’ll likely know to set a rx at 433.92MHz should the problem recur. 👍

Tks for the freq Reggit, I will add that into one of the radios ant the home QTH.

Tks for offer of help Davebb with VIDA, I do have a reader and VIDA s/ware on a oldlaptop in the man room, I have just been lazy of late and not had a proper play with it since originally setting it all up.
