VC70 alarm going off for no obvious reason

Well the next problem has surfaced on a V70 2.4D 2008 I purchased a few days back

Twice now the alarm has gone off for no obvious reason, once at 3am

Not great for me or neighbours

I gather from searching this forum that they have a problem with the alarm module which may necessitate the module being replaced

However I see no great point in alarms these days, no one takes the slightest bit of notice of them

So my question is, can I disconnect the alarm (ie remove the fuse perhaps) with no knock on effect?

Any help or advice appreciated

Does the car not lock without setting the alarm?

Paul Bearer May 14th, 2017 12:26

.

I have not tried as yet but from the book it will lock manually with the key but otherwise it sets the alarm

There was something in the book about omitting the interior sensors but haven't explored that yet

In my original post I omitted to ask if there is a way of checking what set the alarm off or is that reset once you clear and rearm it ?

On mine one click on the fob locks the car the second click sets the alarm

If you have VIDA you can view what triggered the alarm. I would start by setting the reduced guard option and see if that solves it. That will disable the interior and vibration sensors. Is it parked on a road? Often a diesel truck or car with a farty exhaust can set it off. Mine went off yesterday as a tractor came past!

Thanks for your reply Simon

Yes that was my next option, to omit the interior sensors, I have to park on the road, its a quiet village but it only takes one vehicle to set it off so will try that and see how it goes

I have read a couple of comments where they thought wet weather was a cause, and its been wet on and off

I assume VIDA is the display?

It has the messages function on the left stalk but perhaps VIDA is something more?

VIDA is the Volvo diagnostic software which connects to the car using a box of tricks called Dice. If you have a suitable laptop already then it's worth investing in. Alternatively, see if you can find a local owner who will connect their system to the car for you: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=136759

Thanks for that Simon

I hadn't heard of it but have been out the loop with Volvos for a while

I will look into it

Much appreciated
