Engine issue after ETM clean, Urgent!

Hi all,
I decided to give cleaning the ETM a go on my 2001 S60 2.0T. I gave it a clean, put everything back together but now my car is having issues. The idle is awful, it won't rev above about 2000rpm and it's displaying the messages:
"Engine System Service Required"
"Engine System Service Urgent"

and briefly, "Performance Reduced".

I assume something needs resetting and I'm hoping I haven't killed it! Urgent help needed as I need the car to get to work!

All help appreciated. Cheers, Phil

Have you got the inlet pipe back on the ETM fully as these can cause a huge airleak if not seated correctly, they are not the easiest of pipes to put back on - Mike

Just had a look, and took the pipe off, and refitted it, and made sure it was fitted on properly. Tried the engine, and the same happened again, reduced performance and bad idling :(

is there a way to reset the Limp Home mode, could really do with getting to work later !

I did mine the this weekend. Did you replace the gasket and refit correctly. Don't mean to teach how to suck eggs and all that, but I noticed that it was extremlely easy for the gasket to slip out when reffiting. I used a mirror and torch ensure it hadn't moved.
Did you electrically disconnect it or leave it plugged in ?

Coughlanc, thanks for the reply. I cleaned it in situe as I couldn't get to the back bolts, so hopefully no gasket issues, however I must have done something wrong!

Strange why this has happened. Could be worth pulling back off inlet pipe and just double checking that flap is free moving and no crap is causing it to stick.
Like you said, doing it in situ should reduce chance of problems associated with disturbing it.

Is the MIL engine check light on ? If so would suggest reading any codes (assuming you have a code reader) stored then putting them on this forum.

I will try to have a check when I next see the car. I work away and so had to leave the car at home until I'm back on Friday. Yes, te engine management light came on along with the captions. I have no fault reader so will have to tow it to the garage to get them to hook up the diagnostics. I hope the ETM isn't borked, because affording a replacement isn't really an option :(. I just find it Strange how as far as I know I put everything back correctly, but it immediately played up afterwards. Does it have some kind of anti-tamper sensor or something?

Not that i'm aware of. I did mine on my 2.3 T5 on Friday. Disconnected battery incase I had to unplug it then from the top I felt my way around and released bolts and hoses. Managed to move it out from under the manifold and access was good enough to clean without disconnecting it.
Refitted with new gasket, refitted hoses and connected battery. First turn of key and it fired up and idled smoothly. (Engine was hunting before clean).
Difficult to see what could have gone wrong with your clean on a relativley simple job.

That's what I hoped would happen on mine! I'm stumped though, obviously something, somewhere didn't like being messed with and has Put the car into panic mode. I'll get the garage to look at it and hope for the best!!
