1995 940 alarm?
I've just noticed on my 940 now I have a battery on it all the time that the little triangular shaped alarm thing on the driver's side A pillar is flashing red, should it be doing that? There's no alarm sounding, I don't have a fob for it, just an old-school hard key so to speak.

I've got the whole Volvo Guard 1 manual in pdf format if you need it.

It also flashes when an alarm sensor has been triggered and the alarm is not activated; eg when a door is open.

I have that in my 95 940 but i've never touched it for fear of it breaking/ going off randomly, does the system mean my car had fobs with buttons when new? Always wondered as I know later 940 models had them and I never got any with mine but got 3 keys.

The remotes for this type of alarm, Volvoguard 1, look like this. They are different from the later, Volvoguard 2, type which superseded it in around 1996. The Volvoguard 1 remotes have been NLA from Volvo for a while but they crop up on eBay occasionally. Dead ones can often be repaired by some judicious re-soldering of the internal PCB.

Yeah, my 95 has it factory AFAIK. After that last battery failure it has died though. Started locking the car and immbilising randomly.
I've just unplugged it and connected the start motor pins. |
remote coding
If you did manage to aquire a replacement alarm fob, it is possible to code in as a second remote?

The Volvoguard 1 alarm can store up to three remotes and the memory positions can be overwritten with new ones without special equipment. I think when all memory positions on the Volvoguard 2 are full it requires a special volvo gubbins to erase the old remotes. You will need to find the relevant service manual for your system online.
