V70/xc70 boot trim/curry hooks

2 Attachment(s)
The curry hooks (for want of a better terminology) in the side panels on my belgian MY16 XC70 are made out of flimsy black plastic while all the adverts/ photos of UK v70/xc70 seem to have nice shiny 'proper aluminium' hooks.

Does anybody know if these aluminium hooks are actually metal (rather than chromed plastic) and if so are they removable from the trim panels, eg if I found a damaged car in a scrapyard.
I have looked at the part catalogues and haven't seen anything available as separate items, only as a complete side panel.

Sorry but the photo is upside down - struggling to sort it out.

Thanks
Andy

Well well, these tiedown brackets are solid bars rather than hooks on my MY10 XC70 and are aluminium not plastic.

I can see the usefulness of hooks but prefer the positive location of a tie down of my solid bars. I have strapped loads to the side of the car by using one of the floor mounted brackets and a side mounted one. Heavy toolboxes are not good things to have flying around in the event of an accident.

Paul.

To be honest with you it is more for looks than function that I would like to change them.

I think it was one of the penny pinching measures for the 2016 MY. Others were removal of the boot power socket, the gas strut from the boot floors, the pockets on the front of the seat squabs, etc........

Does that mean that your v70 has the plastic hooks as well?

Funnily enough mine has the power socket in the boot. I had no idea about the gas strut until I saw Volvosweden replacing his in one of his videos so that is already on my to-do list.

Mine has the blonde interior and the plastic hooks. The wiring was there for the power socket but I had to buy one and fit it myself.

My 2011 MY V70 had all of those things and the metal hooks. They certainly look nicer.

Our 2016 XC70 has the plastic hooks and fixed tie-downs in the rails in the floor.
The 2012 XC70 has aluminium tie-downs in the side (not hooks) and moveable tie-downs in the floor rails.

Both have the power socket in the rear. Only the 2012 has the gas spring in the boot floor and the pockets at the front of the front seats.

Both are Summum editions.

I wish they would have kept those other things you mention, particularly pockets under the seats and gas strut in the boot ( out of sight oddments stowage is one thing I find severely lacking on the xc70 having spent the last ten years in a toyota verso with three various sized gloveboxes on the dashboard and loads of storage under the three middle seats to hide things like binoculars, cameras, etc).

Mine is a Summum as well and one thing that Volvo are including as an 'upgrade' on that level, but I find totally useless and would gladly give up for a bit more storage, is that silly flap in the boot floor.

Of course the other thing I am still after is those aluminium brackets. Does anyone now if they are moulded into the rear trim or do they just clamp the trim to the chassis.

What kind of flap are you referring to?

This flap thing under the boot mat that we tried once and it was so much hassle we have never bothered with since.
