Hi

Would anyone know who would be able to do a head gasket on a Volvo 760 TD 1990, Gloucester area.
Would also like to respray car, who in same area would do it as a decent price.

I've got the (special VW/Volvo) tools required on the diesel engine to do the cambelt and timing belts if you wanted to give it a go yourself...

Who would you use to do such a job. Have you done a head gasket before. Do you know of a good mechanic who knows these engines and can set it up right.
Is there a better head gasket to use these days?
I know engine was never touched before, so head should be good. Just needs a head gasket.

a good parts main dealer should have the correct variant engine i have a service bulletin to say 1993 was the year these engines had a intercooler fitted and a few other engine tweaks. EGR valve. different water pump . belt tensioner. but try FRF swansea first keep us informed !

from memory the genuine head gaskets there where 3 types and recognised by the notches on the gasket these can be found near the front of the engine on injectors side get a good stone lamp you will see them on the gasket if its dark or you should see them anyway ! 1 notch .2 notch or 3 notch !

hi jor looking at the head gasket on eBay you showed its a 3 notch the 3 small holes on the upper left hand side give it away so our friend needs to check his for starters !

I thought those notches indicated whether it had a head gasket done before, that the notches indicated head was skimmed, so you would use a 3 notch to make up for it, and that if it already had a 3 notch gasket it meant you needed a new head as it could not be skimmed again.
Just something I heard, not saying it's true.

That is car on ebay. Seller is selling it.
I can have for free if I wish. It was parked as head gasket went on it. Car did not burn oil, and has original engine so on. Had a conversion to normal springs and shocks on back. It sits level, a lot have that expensive rear suspension that sags and rides low if faulty.

Saw this on ebay to, unrelated.
Low miles diesel. Also two other petrols on ebay, he is asking 5000 each.
This low mile diesel if it had a light restro should be worth 3k.

I also saw those on eBay earlier this week. Talk about "like buses" - nothing for absolutely ages then two saloons turn up the same week - albeit at opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of condition. First 760 TD's I think I've seen up for sale since a got my estate and that was 2 years ago.....
