Annual cost of maintenance

Ok, had my 02 plate V70 XC 2.4T AWD now for just over a year, and since my ownership I have:
  1. Had the car serviced at Volvo Specialist
  2. Replaced front strut top bearings & spring seats
  3. Replaced both front drop links
  4. Replaced Alarm Siren Module
  5. Replaced rear Anti-roll Bar complete
  6. Replaced rear drop links
  7. Carried out auto gearbox flush (10 litres Volvo ATF)
  8. Replaced B4 servo
  9. Replaced front inner track rods
  10. Replaced outer track rod ends
  11. Bought Volvo service items, oil/air/fuel filters, plug set, 8 Litres Castrol Magnatec

All parts genuine Volvo EXCEPT track rods/rod ends ,drop links and strut bearings/spring seats

Now the car has an ABS/Anti-skid message which I have found that the front nearside abs reluctor ring has a tooth missing.

Will soon need 4 new tyres, front discs (bought the pads already) & front lower ball joints

When I get the courage, I will add all this up.

It won't be long at this rate, before the car will be virtually new again :laughing-smiley-003

The main problem I have is at this moment, I do not have the money available to get something newer.........and I have to admit, the cost of petrol versus economy is making me think about a diseasel..........yeah I know!!

What does it cost you a year to keep your car on the road??

Ignore the cost of an MOT/tax/fuel etc......but include anything else over and above this......

....and maybe say whether maintenance is:-

1. Main dealer
2. Independent
3. Self

Item 1 was at Independent, track rods/rod ends/B4 cover and wheel align(missed that off my list!) was done by my village Joe Bloggs garage.

Everthing else by myself

Thanks.

Just asking, because there are probably people like me, that are useless when it comes to maintenance...!!!... hence trips to main dealer where cost is expensive, so cost per se could provide a 'wonky' version of what is obtainable, and could suggest these models are dear to maintain, when they may not be.

I no longer have S60 of this year mind.

Cars without doubt are expensive to run, My biggest expense are tyres. I have the same issues with drop links, arm bushes, siren, DIM and discs that other members have, but apart from that my T5 appears to have been hand built by dedicated workers as it has never not started (flat battery due to siren excluded) or ever failed to get to a destination.
For me to replace this car would cost several £1000 and I believe that I'd be better keeping it a spending the money I'd spend on replacing it, on fixing it.
The biggest cost of any new/newish car is depreciation. My T5 cost £23500 in 2003 (1yr old) so its cost approx £2500 a year just to sit on my drive before I turn a wheel.

Cheers

Bob

in the 18 months ive owned my06 s60 t5 it has had
clutch+slave £725, 2 weeks after buying it.
2 front 4c shocks £360
2nd hand engine fitted after dropping a big end shell, including new timing belt. £1000
7 new tyres lol £700 ish
front lower arm bushes got free with exhaust
besides the esentials above it has also had
MTE stage 2 tune £450
Full turbo back ferrita exhaust £900 ish. can't remeber exact price tbh but original exhaust was knackered, cat had collapsed
got damaged in a hail storm costing £2100 to repair
wheels refurbed £400
i will leave it at that for now, probably forgot about a few bits, havn't told the wife about half of the costs lol
Edit;
Just remebered it needs 2 new front disks (320mm) because of vibration when braking at speed and the rears are overdue for the hand brake shoes and pads so theres a few hundred more

In 2 months I've done 12k, so call it a year for you :D

All DIY except tyres
Service, filters & oil £50
2x drop links £20
2x ABS relucter rings £7
2x abs sensors £20
Rear brake pads £20
4x tyres £270

Everything looks ok atm, and next service is a couple of weeks/thousand mies away, so add on another £50 for that if you want. I'm not expecting to be replacing anything else soon, but who is ....

I don't know all this money spent! I have just sold my V70AWD, auto 2001 model.

In the time we had it (Three years and 40k miles) we spent Nothing on it other than its service intervals. I used genuine parts and the work done myself. Always passed its mot first time too.

It never not started, never broke down and never made 'a funny noise'.

I was sorry to see it go but my wife changed jobs and so we have swapped it for a D5 which will get the same treatment.

I my opinion there is a 'fiddle' factor and believe sometimes this can bring on trouble...
