Ball part from detachable towbar
 

I've got a genuine tow bar on my XC60 but for some reason the detachable part doesn't seem to engage properly so I'm after another one, anyone got one kicking around they don't want please?

I have to fiddle with mine as it doesn't seem to catch on the first four or five goes. Keep meaning to spray some silicone lubricant in there to see if that makes a difference.

Does it sort of latch in but rattles?

For some reason when I turn the knob it doesn't latch in the "removed" position so when I put the ball in I have to hold it against the spring and then let it go.

Yep, same as mine. Takes a few goes to get it to lock in place so I can lock it with the key. Feels loose until I get it to sit correctly.

I had the same where. The catch was not fully engaging at the back end, clean with fine sand paper, clean so slider which is spring loaded is free, lube shaft. Also clean the two recess the the removable towbar pins fit into as after a while this builds up with dirt use fine sand paper on a round bar. Also clean the round pins on removeable towbar as well.
Mine now goes clonk click.

I’ve already lubed up the tongue that comes out the back and think it’s quite free but haven’t tried cleaning up the pins or the cups the pin sits into.
Was it on the back of the actual socket that you cleaned it up to get it to latch it?

Yes both cups, both pins and also the flat surface where the spring pin slides and rest on. When I done mine I removed the 2 bolts that housed the tow bar block and cleaned this up in my vice, this way you get to see how it works.
Cleaned and grease bolts then tighten to 140Nm.
Someone may correct the correct Nm, I could not find what it was at the time.
140Nm on 12mm bolts is about right in my mind.

With the spring loaded pin, best to push in with a lump of hard wood as it's a strong loaded spring.

Well I don't need one anymore, thanks to the guys above and a hammer the original one now locks into place!

I think the pin in the detachable part had just got stuck, held the bar in the vice and gave it a quick blow with a hammer on the actual locking pin and it sprung back into life.
