Bulkhead fuel line: 1984 GLT

Am looking for the rigid fuel line that runs from the fuel filter across the top of the bulkhead and over the wiper motor, to connect with the flexible line on the right.

Mine has corroded inside the sleeve, just to the left of the motor in the picture, and is weeping fuel.

Hope that the attached picture will help you identify it clearly.

Thanks.

An alternative would be copper pipe: ~ from memory this is 8mm OD a standard diameter so you should be able to purchase by the mtr. From a plumber’s merchant or eBay.
Plus a couple of straight compression couplers to the existing rust free pipe.
(You can now fit that ball valve as an anti-theft measure- we won’t tell!)
Good luck-Bob

Bulkhead fuel line: 1984 GLT

Thanks, Louise.

The fuel line is no longer available from Volvo.

I am considering replacing the rotten part of the line with copper, or steel, or high pressure hose.

I have seen some academic doubts about the reaction of petrol to copper, although all the various motoring forums seem to think copper is OK, and Carbuilder Solutions have it on sale without caveat. I've passed the problem to my MoT mechanic to ponder on 7 June.

A car breaker in the Birmingham area tells me that he can supply the line for £210. That could be the Volvo dealer price for a new, unused one, if it were available, but does seem to be rather unscrupulous for a secondhand one. I asked for a photo, but the response was a telephone message to ring him back. So, I'm leaving it to him to take the matter further.

I'm very grateful to Louise for trying to find a replacement pipe in the breakers in her area. That's camaraderie above and beyond.

My MoT mechanic decided against doing something with copper pipe, and, as I dared not drive the car to him with a leaking fuel pipe, cut the ends off and supplied me with high-pressure hose to finish the job at home.

It's now in place, and the car is running, but the tricky joint at the fuel filter is weeping ever so slightly. I'll try to get that sorted today.

Credit once more to Louise.

David.
