backfiring b230 f

Hi all!
I've got a bit of burbling and backfiring on de acceleration only noticable at a stand still. Can anyone tell me what i should be checking to remedy this? The engine starts and goes no problem.

Cheers!

How old are the sparkplugs and wireset?

Hi!
Its just had new leads rotor arm and plugs and the cap is recent. I replaced these items in the hope it might cure the backfire but it continues??

Is there an exhaust leak somewhere? Even a tiny hole, eg a leaking gasket or a poorly clamped joint can let in a small amount of air which seems to encourage backfires.

Mine used to burble quite a lot on deceleration, when driving, but not actually backfire.
Coincidentally I noticed a lot of rattling from the rear silencer, and on removing it and tipping it up lots of small pieces of glazed firebrick fell out - I think from a decomposing catalyst. On reassembling everything worked perfectly, and the burbling had vanished. I've no idea whether the pieces came from the existing catalyst, or some previous one, but it didn't seem to matter or affect the emissions, so perhaps the remains from an old one.

I don't see why the debris should have caused burbling, unless perhaps it increased back pressure and that was the cause.
