V40 D3 Manual 2012 - economy?
Morning all,
I'm usually annoying people in the XC90 and S40/V50 sections.... but I'm looking at a 2012 V40 D3 with manual gearbox as a next daily driver. What MPG do people typically get from these? I know it really depends on driving style, I'll be doing about 100 miles a day, 60% motorway at 75 ish, 30% country but weaving roads and lots of juctions, 10% urban... Any info appreciated, as any pointers to common faults? Looks an original car with just 60k on it. Thanks in advance... |
Hi,
it's been few months that I own a V40 2013 D3 5-cyl, 90k km on the clock. With 17' wheels and doing 70% city driving I get average of 7.5L/100km on full tank. I turn off start/stop immediately every time. During my trips which are roughly like yours, 75% highway at 140km/h ~ 6L/100km. If you are patient not exceeding 120km/h you can get it to use less than 5L/100km. Hope it helps! Btw. I am super satisfied with the car! First Volvo for me but definitely not last. |
I think that converts to about 47 mpg in the uk?
I hope it’s good ‘cos ive just bought it.... |
My wife’s car is a 2014 D3 automatic and it is averaging just under 50mpg on the trip computer, so maybe 45 actual, on a mix of 70% A road, 30% rural driving. Hopefully, yours will be a little better.
If your new acquisition is as good a car as hers is, you should enjoy it very much - other than the limited boot space, I can’t fault it; the 5 cylinder engine is an absolute delight. |
I drove it back from Scarborough to Beverley on Wednesday night at a steady 50 mph - the average fuel according to the computer was 62 mpg! I know they are mostly optimistic but that still bodes well.
The car is to replace a 12 year old 180k mile V50 2.0D. Although the V50 is an estate the load area seems very shallow and it's a very low car so I don't think the reduced space will be a problem. And I'll still keep my XC90 if I need to shift anything big.... I've owned 3 T5's and over twice as many D5's so I was very keen to get another five banger and they aren't that easy to find. I know the D2 isn't a bad thing but I do quite a bit of motorway travelling and rely on the ability to pick up quickly. I might even look at a Polestar job if there are offers on again... Just really happy to have another daily driver with lovely, comfortable, warm seats. |
