To the best of my knowledge lemforder and Sachs are OEM?
|
Wishbones changed. Lemforder used.
Struts on order, estimated delivery next week.. Now.. I had a faulty CV joint, replaced beginning of December, and other side I had replaced just after new year, "for peace of mind". Few months later and BOTH boots, are split, spitting grease.. Not a happy monkey. Edit: Anybody knows good CV boots that don't cost arm and leg? For some other reasons I need to get it off eBay.. Well, not actually- I have to pay with PayPal, eBay or not. Any pointers welcomed :) |
Drop links (Meyle) ordered..
Remains on list: Front discs Front brake pads Front top spring seats Front top strut mounts (to be confirmed) Top strut damper (that orange cushion) Strut protective sleeve (old ones nearly disintegrated) Good quality lower ball joints CV boots... (£36 each at dealer.. I mean.. REALLY?? a piece of rubber?!?) Tank filling rubber neck. Catalytic converter (second hand) |
OK.. Done some homework, that included a lot of swearing towards micro and soft when win 7 was trying to update itself for few hours, without my consent..
But eventually I started Vida, got part numbers.. Now I'd like to ask for some advice. Obviously OEM parts would be best, but then I have to weight in the cost and my peculiar need to pay with PayPal (I don't want to transfer money from it onto my current account in order to pay with card). Therefore I need to choose something available to me, at good price, without buying crap. This is where I need some advice. Did anyone try any of below? What would you say I should get? I made a kind of list.. Choice of: Top spring mounts, that to be honest, I don't even know do I need at all: No1, full set: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F172967878927 No 2 https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F273553089658 No3 https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F202201597840 Or in separate bits: Plastics: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F280862765112 https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F283406585754 https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F192526112066 And metals (bearing plates): https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F273594506425 https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F332032855425 https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F283059051591 Ball joints: No1: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F191501739992 No2 https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F170999696831 CV boots.. £36 each at dealers, or one of below? No1 https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F113673253988 No2 https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F362574161291 Brakes.. Still looking for some discs, but I can safely expect around £100 each plus the pads.. But I've found these sets, and I wonder are these any good, preference for redstuff (last link): https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F263090015439 https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F141932639718 https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F121817164080 Then I have strut sleeves that I'm quite convinced I will need: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F292984027915 Upper and lower spring rubber seats that I'm not sure will I need, but I do have a feeling they're for silencing the spring: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F273670109077 https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F283070698544 And we get to the bad boy.. My CAT rattles. Apart from that it seems to be doing its job. But stol rattles.. Is any of below any good? I may be thinking of one in the future: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F232464656058 https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F172995457281 https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F302791588150 Now.. Whilst I wait for opinions.. I'll set up some more auctions for stuff I want to sell (funds gathering) Thanks in advance! |
Hi before you buy the front discs, Have you measured the size that you have fitted ?

OEM Spring seats
Regarding spring (mounts) seats I have only ONE advice. Go for OEM.
Believe it or not, aftermarket parts WON'T last. Mine lasted apr. one year (about 25.000 km). This is the one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/192526112066?ul_noapp=true Just watch oragex's video about them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpGd-_s46bw&t=12s |
Well.. Yes.
And no.. I have measured them some 2 years ago. With that, I don't remember exact size, but I do remember these were the smallest of what was OEM fitted (3 size options) Since the options were 286, 305 and 320mm, I'm quite confident that I have 286 ones. But of course I will measure before buying, that's a must :) Not buying the brakes yet, by the way. I have to set the works in stages. I just had wishbones changed, I'd rather waited with them until I have the rest of suspension bits, but these were in dire need of changing.. Border of urgency, really.. So the next stage will be the rest of front suspension. Struts, spring seats, ball joints.. All of that I want to do in one go, obviously. And since I will have open access, I will change these CV gaiters... Still can't believe they have failed after.. What.. 4 months? Jeez... No more euroscrapparts... Maybe for spanners and cleaning stuff, but not parts. Then, some weeks after, I will be paying attention to brakes. And then to all the rest of stuff that I know of, plus things that may turn up in the meantime. Oh.. And I've just been looking at reviews of these ebc brakes.. Red ones squeaky incredibly (but then I don't know did the guy even bother with copper grease or similar on contact/sliding surfaces) Yellow ones didn't survive a day on the track.. But then I'm not a racer, so may yet be good for me.. But even then, there seems to be too many bad points in regards to quality with this manufacturer.. Will see. There's time.. :) |

Some months ago I've seen a post here, someone, I don't quite remember who, but one of frequent contributors, was warning us about meyle mounts that failed within 20 000 miles. Thus, before I buy anything, I rather check with members here. So far I'm on lemforder wishbones(whole 36 hours as for the moment I'm writing this), and I'm waiting for delivery of Sachs front shocks :) |
Sachs front shocks are a good option. I have them on my car since 2015 (100.000 km / 62.000 miles). No problem so far with the front ones. Unfortunately the rear ones lasted only about a year :(
According to oragex Lemförder wishbones are very good also. I had Meyle front droplinks on my car. No problem with them, they lasted quite a lot. In fact I still have Meyle rear droplinks fitted in 2014. Good luck with your "operation"! |
Sachs being the OEM option :)
I know, I had my head in there, checking for numbers. Clear markings stating both "Volvo" and "Sachs" on one sticker :) And thanks for reminding- only yesterday I did order the drop links :) Meyle. I'd say "thanks" for good wishes, but I heard somewhere it may bring bad luck ;) |
