Afternoon,

Does anyone have any experience of repairing the lumber support in the driver’s seat of their Amazon? Mine has never worked but would be a bonus if I could get it working again for the longer journeys. The +/- adjuster seems to have a bit of resistance at the start and end of its cycle but nothing in the middle and the lumber doesn't adjust at all. Is this quite a bit job to fix? Any advice would be great.

The webbing in the seat back goes bad the same as the that in the squab excepts it is mostly due to age rather than age and bodyweight. Not so easy to get the seat back cover off so it rarely gets renewed. Once you've got the hog rings out of the bottom edge it's down to a lot of patient pulling once it's on the bench. An extra pair hands is useful. Repair/replace/re glue the sponge if needed while you are in there. Replacing it can be even more trying but you can cheat and use a thin plastic bag from a swivel top kitchen rubbish bin with a bit of silicone spray or Mr Sheen on the outside to help slide the cover on. You can either leave that in or yank it all or most of it out afterwards. Hog rings can be replaced with suitable coloured mini cable ties if you're not desperate for originality. Do it neat and no one will notice. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply Derek. If the sponge is beyond repair is there a recommended/specific replacement sponge?

Which style lumbar adjuster does your seat have? There are (at least) two types - one with an external black plastic knob, the other where adjustment is via a screwdriver inserted through a metal eyelet in the side of the backrest. The internals are different for each too, and IIRC, the change over date is towards the late '60s.

As the seat back picture has head rests, which could well be original, chances are that yours will be the same as that one.
Replacement sponges are available but expensive at about £60 for a back and £70 for a squab. Your local furniture upholsterer should be able to supply and even cut to shape repair pieces or even make new ones for a fraction of that. Sponge has various hardness grades so any old sponge won't do. Cuts nice with an electric carving knife if you have one or can borrow one.

Well, better late than never....

Finally made a start on the seat. Ordered some new webbing but can't seem to find the lumbar support clips that attach the black horizontal adjustable lumbar straps to the frame. Unfortunately 2 of them have snapped and unless I've missed them I can't see them on the Brookhouse website (tried calling but Simon's not taking calls under the current situation), CVI or Amazon Cars, does anyone have any idea where these can be bought or is it a case of trying to make myself?

Condition of the foam is pretty good so not going to replace that but when I was removing the seat cover the two brown fabric patches came out (first photo) and not sure where they are supposed to locate when I reassemble, any ideas?

My loose pads were from the top rear corners of the seat protecting the cover from the frame.
Also had a broken clip and couldn't source a replacement.... Bought a new one which is used for the webbing on the seat base and bent that to work!
