CR-906 Stereo, overnight issue, faint sound from 1 spkr only
Chaps,
Our CR-906 stereo has worked w/o fault since we got our 940 Celebration back in '98 (aside from a sticking tape player). However 2 weeks ago, suddenly there was no sound from the radio, which we always have on when the car is driven. The stereo behaves fine otherwise: The display works, the backlight, it accepts the code after the battery is disconnected etc. Fuse in the back of it is okay. I cranked up the volume to the max and, oddly, I can hear the radio coming through the back left door speaker - basically to the level of hearing music from another room. But there is no sound from the other speakers / tweeters. Any of this sound familiar to anyone or any ideas? I'm just reading through various old threads here but just thought I'd ask. Cheers! |
Thinking out loud, it appears to have an internal amp, which could be blown. It also has a socket for an external amp. If I was to fit an external amp, and speakers to it, does anyone know if that connection is dependent on the internal amp working or is it independent? I suppose I'm wondering if the pcb has failed somewhere, like the instrument clusters.

Have you tried tapping the tops/or operating any of the electric window or mirror controls on the driver's door? If that makes the speaker wherever front or back, left or right re-connect you have a problem with the large ground wire connector block under the driver's leg side trim panel near the Jetronic ecu. Clean it all up and maybe your problem will be resolved.

Thanks, Bob - that's a very interesting idea. I did clean that area up last summer when addressing some other issues but definitely no harm in checking things over again. From what I've read, we seem to have been quite lucky having things work this long.

Wiring
Run a temporary wire from the radio to one of the speakers to determine if the fault is in the wiring or the radio.
