Service!!
Hi all,
I am after a bit of advice and information. I have a volvo v40 t4 SE auto. It is at 59k at the moment and has full volvo history (apart from the service before i bought it). There are a few niggly problems with the vehicle and the wort one being the gearbox! Sometimes when in either sport or normal when i pull away gently the car seems to be hunting for a gear and after flicking back and forth for a second or two finds one and off we go. Then again sometimes when i am gently accelerating the car goes into 4th and seems to hit ann overdrive gear and the revs drop and then it has a slight jerk and seems to be going for another overdrive and just sort of hunts again??. The problems are intermittent though and i can't get it to perform whenever i want. So my questions are. 1) What is covered by the 60 k service from volvo and should i let the main dealer service it or should i take it to my local independant garage and get them to service it for half the price? 2) Should i take it to a volvo garage and get them to check the gearbox out or should i take it to my local independant gearbox specialist and get them to check out the gearbox? Any advice is welcomed. PS. I am in sunny warwickshire. (in case anyone knows any good garages in the area) Thanks in advance Steve 99' V40 T4 SE Auto |

As a fellow 99 V40 T4 SE Auto driver I didn't like the sound of your post... I've only done 32k so hope this isn't a sign of what's to come. Anyway, I've had a look at the 60k service schedule and the only mention of gearbox is Gearbox ( B4184SM adverse conditions) Drain/Refill No idea if that is auto or manual though. Apart from normal service items it also mentions these Steering / suspension Check / Report Exhaust System / mounts c / r Front wheel bearingd c/r Throttle body Clean Crankcase ventilation check / clean Timing Belt (B4184SM) Replace Hope that helps Mike |
