164 on fleabay
Gold 164 on ebay- not one for the faint hearted!
|
Am speaking with seller (vaguely known to me anyway). Trouble is - pictures from 10ft away don't always tell the truth. I spoke with its previous owner who said the inner sill area is probably as bad as the visible rot on the outer, which is an MoT-fail area. Lower front panel-to-wing joint looks bad, and dented door - as said, not for the spit-and-polish brigade yet (if ever), and gold 164s seem to rust worse than any other colour - coincidence or what?
Methinks I'll carry on prepping my maroon one.... Paul |
Possible
It's not as bad as many. At least there isn't a pile of filler hiding the rot. Seemed a fairly honest car to me but price would have to be low.

Interesting concept! Gold 164s rust worse, there could be a genuine reason for that. Perhaps some paint colours are more porous than others. Several times I've been assured that Italian cars from '60s rusted- partly due to the very porous, soft paint.
Can't say as I like gold on the 164 much, or the 140s, besides id like a manual. Never seen a black 164- that would be cool, suit a member of the Swedish mafia! Normally white looks c**p on most cars but I think it looks good on a 164- very regal. |
Regal
My 164E is white and although not quite regal it was once used by the Swedish Ambassador to Germany. On the road but desperately needs a repaint again after a problem with my water trap - darn.
Does look good especially as the paint is duller than the awful Transit van diamond white you sometimes see. |
Well someone's bought it for a few hundred- hope they do a good job restoring it!
