Replace rear shocks along with springs?
Going to tackle replacing my rear coil springs, as one of them is very corroded and has broken at one end.
However, I'm wondering if it would make sense for me to also replace the shocks while I've got them out? As for the last 3 MOTs they have been flagged: "Rear Shock absorbers has slight external damage to the casing Corroded. Both (5.3.2 (b))". https://p.spdr.me/vHKNJQMC+https://p.spdr.me/VTl6bY6t+ |
As the shocks have been picked up as advisories, why would you not replace them at the same time as the springs. To do the springs and not the shocks would mean redoing the job in a few months time when the shocks will need replacing.

Whilst you're at it, you may as well replace the shocks.

About to buy shocks, springs, top mounts and dust cover kit, but noticed that Haynes says I'll need to replace a few nuts:
Struggling to work out part numbers for these or a place to buy them, any pointers? |

I have just ordered a load of bits from Chris Harris parts guy at FRF Volvo Swansea
If you email him on chrisharris@frf-motors.co.uk Quote your VIN in the reference line and model details. Then outline what you are after exactly and he will do the part number hunting for you. If you ask for everything, he will let you know what if anything is no longer available, some stuff he can get from Sweden in 2 weeks. Also quote Volvo Owners Club discount code C0003 my service parts ranged from 15% - 32% discount so well worth it. Anything they can't do or is rather pricey, then you can go aftermarket. Hope that may help, Cheers, Steve |
