Santander PCP - Word of warning.!
 

Hi guys

Just a friendly word of warning for anyone who buys cars on PCP.

The main provider of PCP finance as far as I can see for a new Volvo is Santander. Having purchased a new car a couple of months ago which has only a massive load of grief...

Santander. As owner of the vehicle. Absolutely could not care less. In fact, I just got off the phone with them having been told that because the car was taken by Volvo UK recovery to my local Volvo approved dealer, and not the original merchant of the vehicle (halfway across the country) as far as they are concerned I may now have to pay for the repairs myself..(!!!).

They don’t want to know. They don’t care that I don’t have the vehicle. They just want their monthly payment.

Shame because I wanted the PCP and then to keep the car long term.

So yeah. I advise that under no circumstances should anyone in the market for a PCP go anywhere near Santander. Save yourself the grief.

What's wrong with it ?.
I guess they are shut at the moment or can't get parts.

Engine constantly rattling initially, later semi-diagnosed by Volvo as engine pinking. Also completely broken down the once. Undiagnosed.

Yeah closed now but the car went in 4 times in total. Santander zero f**ks throughout. So long as they get their payments they don’t care.

I suspect that if I stop the payments now. Despite not having the car. I will end up worst.

What have Volvo UK had to say.

Dealer previously said they had made Volvo UK aware. Nothing heard though. I’ve sent all the correspondence across to them myself today to see what they say.

The whole idea of buying a new car is pretty ruined now anyway. Not holding out for much from Volvo tbh.

As the Dealer has not sorted the issue after 4 attempts, have you considered formally rejecting the car?

Santander don’t want to know. They didn’t want to know when it was taken in a 3rd time. And don’t want to know when it went in for the 4th time.

They insist that because the car was taken by Volvo UK to a dealer other than where it was purchased from, I have no right to reject the car.

Worse as far as they are concerned I may well now be liable for the repairs as the local approved Volvo dealer where the car was taken to may have ‘interfered’ with the vehicle. Could not make it up..!

I don’t want to come across as moaning Gents. Just thought I would share my awful experience of PCP via Santander so that none of you have to go through this same grief.

You'd imagine that Volvo UK would communicate with Santander & the dealership - Surely this would be logged somewhere if they did? Volvo UK recovered the vehicle & brought it to your local garage, so how were you to know that this would cause issues? It definitely sounds like a massive communication error between all parties & you're expected to cough up the costs, which is totally wrong.

Do you have any idea as to how much these repairs are going to cost you? I'd suggest chasing up the correspondence you sent & filing a formal complaint if you don't get any form of response. Volvo UK will be registered by some form of body, so you're well within your rights to file a complaint. They have to respond to that complaint to be compliant with their registration to the body that they're governed by.

Sounds to me like you need legal advice. You're paying Santander for a vehicle that you can't use. They can't keep taking your money on the one hand, and not take some responsibility on the other.

Personally, I'd stop paying for thr car. I mean, what's the worst they can do? Repossess it? That'd be a shame, eh?

No, take you to the cleaners via the courts because you owe them money. You then have to counter sue them because you do not have use of the car. Guess who's pockets are deeper when it comes to court cases.

They do not want the car, they are a money house, they want the money you agreed to pay them, don't pay them and CCJs and debt collectors will be the next step.

I bought from volvo in Newcastle on Tyne, 6 hours travel from my home on the understanding that any warrantee work could be carried out in any volvo dealer and would be honoured. So as far as volvo are concerned they have done no wrong ( apart from a car that does not work ).
The problem here is that Santander as the legal owner are not accepting volvos terms and do not care the car is faulty.

The OP is piggy in the middle, in effect he is renting a car that doesnot work and the legal owner will not accept volvos terms. I feel for the guy, this is why I will not use CPC. I would sooner take a bank loan and own the car while paying the bank off as you have far more rights as an owner than a renter..
