2005 diesel S40 ignition/start issues.

Hi volvoforums,
I have a strange problem with my S40 and I hope a solution rings bells with someone.
The car in question is a 2005 diesel S40 saloon.
The issue is this - as soon as I connect the battery, the engine cranks but does not start - the key is not in the ignition!
RAC has suggested its the ignition switch in the dashboard - a tricky (getting to) job but fairly cheap part to replace.
The problem started when I went to start the car parked in a shopping centre car park. Upon starting the car (with the key) the central locking went 'loopy - open/close repeat', the dashboard lights flashed indiscriminately and the car cranked but no start. Had to disconnect the battery to stop it - no key in ignition!
Has anyone experienced such a 'weird issue' and if so any thoughts on a fix.
Thanks in advanced for any support.
Cheers, James.

it could be the solenoid on the starter sticking.
Remove the small wire from the starter and reconnect the batterry.
If it starts cranking again - your starter is kaput.
If not, just (may as well) check the voltage to the small wire youve removed from the starter. Youll have 12v there. then you need to work on the switch etc

I would not expect it to be the switch but you never know.

S40 2007 petrol

Hi guys

My car has got some intermittent starting issues. Sometimes it starts well, sometimes it starts with a very low idle like it wants to cut off. Sometimes it cranks ,doesn’t start but if I press gas pedal it starts. I have these error codes
DIM-DF13 -CAN bus H signal too high intermittent fault
CEM-6C43-start control module SCU faulty signal(intermittent fault)
DE01-Communication with BCM control module signal missing.(intermittent fault)

Anyone experienced similar problems or have an idea what could be the problem

It's not helpful posting the same question in multiple threads - It's hard to keep track of answers.

See my reply in the other thread you posted this in.
