LED headlight bulb upgrade

Has anyone had any real joy of successfully swapping their very dull halogens for LED without issues and that have lasted. V70 06.

The biggest issue you will have is passing an MOT as it's an instant fail now

Assuming you’ve check the earths and voltage drop, the bulbs are your problem. Genuine Osram Night Breaker Long Life bulbs are what you need. Be careful they’re genuine and not knock off.

You mustn't swap the lamps themselves as mentioned above that's a fail (and even if you somehow blag it without them noticing, if you crash and they find them, your MOT is void and therefore so is your insurance)

they did change those regs recently though so now you can replace the whole headlight unit with purpose built sealed LED if such a thing exists. I haven't seen such a thing for the V70 but I haven't spent any time searching

I can't really imagine anyone would bother manufacturing them as opposed to for example the classic mini and other much older collectible cars where demand is far greater

I tried those and they lasted exactly 11 months (with DRL on)

I then switched to Bosch and they're still going strong 18 months later https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...e?ie=UTF8&th=1

I haven't yet come across a situation where they weren't bright enough

in fact a lot of people drive around with lights that are way too bright if anything, it's a real nuisance to everyone else

I’ve got 40,000 miles (two years) out of this set so far. Same as you, headlights on all the time. Suspect you were supplied with knock offs rather than the genuine Osrams.

I don't think so they were in genuine packaging ? but how could you tell other than that

they were the right price, from Amazon

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...e?ie=UTF8&th=1

regardless I didn't really notice them to be any brighter than the Bosch's which are cheaper so that's another thing to bear in mind

Anyone can sell on Amazon, there’s no guarantee they’ll be genuine. You need to see the correct holographic sticker to be sure.

They might well be from the Osram store, but the ones you linked to aren’t LL bulbs.

Buy what you like; allI’m doing is sharing my experience.
