XC60 tailgate strut replacement - alternative supplier

More for info really.

I called my local dealer to get a price for a pair of replacement struts for the powered tailgate on my 2012 XC60 as the tailgate had started to droop/travel intermittently.

Once I picked myself up off the floor, the nice lady confirmed I had heard correctly..... 565 pounds for the pair (outrageous:shocked:)

Anyways after a bit of looking around I did find a company called Tasca Spares in the States that supplies genuine Volvo spares. Their price? 395 pounds, and that included DHL courier, VAT and import duty.

Took receipt of them today and took about an hour to fit. I still need to visit the dealer for the required software update/programming for the new struts to allow full extension however the saving has still been substantial.

Just to say worth a look if you end up in a similar position.

Are you sure you need new software because that could easily be another £100 or so based on many posts on here for towbar software, navi updates, etc.

There is usually a procedure for making the tailgate stop at a particular height ( to avoid hitting low garage roof, etc) - check in your manual for details, because it might just need over-riding.
From memory, it is something like hold the tailgate manually at a particular height while holding the close button for a few seconds but, again, check your manual.
