1800S Clutch

Hi
Further to a recent post I'm currently having a local garage replace the clutch on my 1969 1800S (2 litre), but they're reporting difficulty in getting the clutch cable attached as they initially said it not long enough. They took it all apart again and it now transpires that while most of the components are a good match for the old the new clutch housing is slightly 'larger' resulting in a 15mm difference thus making the clutch cable not long enough.
I've suggested they talk to Simon at Brookhouse as he supplied the parts and knows more about it than anyone else, but today they are closed for stocktaking. So I'm just wondering in the meantime (while the car is stuck on the ramp) if anyone has any ideas or experience why this might be the case. Sorry for any lack of detailed info, but this is just as the garage reported.
Thank you

Simon

Simon;

I'd also talk to the other Simon, but I'm not aware of any minor differences like that...besides, I seen to recall that the sheath of the cable makes a gentle arch from the Firewall to the Bellhousing, so I would expect this arch to be able to accommodate a mere 15mm difference if indeed the replacement cable was that much shorter...these are just my quick off the cuff impressions from memory, so take those for what little they might be worth...

Good Hunting!

Edit: Now that I think about it, there is more than that half inch/15mm in threaded adjustment on the Bellhousing end! See also: http://www.sw-em.com/Clutch_-_cable_actuated_Notes.htm

Make sure that the garage is using a matched 3 piece clutch. If they have bought in a cover and disc and a release bearing from somewhere else it maybe the wrong length. They can check it against your old bearing. The difference can be small but will make a lot of difference at the cable end of the lever.

Yes indeed. All parts were supplied to me by Brookhouse and I then passed them on to the garage doing the work. No news from the garage so far so I'm hoping they have contacted Simon at Brookhouse and sorted it out.
Thanks both for your suggestions.
