Some questions about s40 d5 I'm considering to get
 

I've been speaking to the owner and hes sent me a few videos of the car so i can get an idea before going to see it..


he sent me a video and when key is turned on the glow plug light only showed for a split second like not even 1 second is that anything wrong ? Usually it will stay on longer than that right? I have a s40 2.0 d and mine also doesnt Stay very long but still bit longer than this one


Also he says steering wheel is shaking over 60mph and he said that he changed 2 inner drive shaft and the shaking started after this

Just looking at mot history and last time it failed on 29th March this year it says following:

Repair immediately (major defects):
Nearside Front Inner Prop shaft joint constant velocity boot no longer prevents the ingress of dirt (6.1.7 (g) (ii))
Offside Front Inner Prop shaft joint constant velocity boot no longer prevents the ingress of dirt (6.1.7 (g) (ii))

Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
Nearside Rear Nail in tyre ()
Nearside Front Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e))
Offside Front Inner Drive shaft damaged but serviceable (6.1.7 (e))

Any thoughts ?

Why would shaking start after changing drive shaft ? He says before changing drive shaft the shaking wasnt there

It is very common for replacement driveshafts to be inferior quality and creating wobbly/shaking feeling. In lots of cases shafts are refurbished units or just cheaper aftermarket pieces, and often quality of them is just not good. If repair was done using such parts, well - I wouldnt be surprised it wobblies.
Another point creating wobbliness apart from mentioned in another thread (brakes/wheels) are lower wishbone bushes - those are very weak points and often goes bad making whole lower control arm shaking, mostly visible/heard during braking or accelerating (lateral movement). Just add this to list of possibilities, fortunately - not expensive fix as you can just replace bushing itself.

Thanks for the info .. so seems it is the drive shaft then.. so just means getting some better quality ones and replacing them

yes , I wouldn't take it with the wobble , its going to cost him about £700 for a pair of decent volvo drive shafts , his problem not yours ...
They could have reassembled them incorrectly too when they fell apart when changing the rubber boots . looks like the hasn't seen an expert for some time .

Last time I asked for Volvo for a quote on the shafts they wanted £900 on an exchange basis or be subjected to a surcharge of £180 per shaft.

Oh man .. I was planning to go look at it and get it tomorrow.. didn't know it would be so expensive to change the drive shafts!

Could it be that after changing the drive shafts the wheels just need balancing ?

it might be worth getting a used pair , not very often they wear out . I would put it down to them being taken apart and not reassembled properly .unfortunately it can't be diagnosed by remote control though .
